(12,353 posts)He never came, though, and somehow sleep would finally overtake me. The stockings were always filled in the morning and the hoped for gift from Santa was under the tree.

(121,777 posts)so I saw no point in staying up just to watch my parents put presents under the tree. But I humored them for a few more years, pretending I believed in the whole charade so I'd get more presents.

(11,222 posts)but by the time I was about 7 I knew Santa wasn't exactly "real" because one of the kids at school had said something and I asked my mom. She told me, but also told me not to tell my younger brothers because it was good for them to believe. I didn't. And I still sort of believed.
Until the Christmas Eve I woke up and heard my parents putting presents under the tree and talking about one in particular that I hadn't expected to receive---a doll cradle that my grandfather, a gifted woodcarver, had made for me. That spoiled everything.

(16,204 posts)I was just laying in my bed, waiting for him. And, believe it or not, I heard a noise on the roof and then the sound of several foot/hoove steps. No kidding! I dont know if I was hallucinating or what.

(39,443 posts)I was of the belief that Santa wouldnt stop by if kids were still awake.
I do remember once waking up around three or four in in morning and seeing the cookies gone, a half empty glass of milk on the coffee table, and presents loaded under the tree. I was pretty gobsmacked but also relieved I didnt run into him.

(36,084 posts)when I woke up and caught my Nana eating the cookies and drinking the milk that we'd set out for Santa. I can still hear her panicked, "GET TO BED!" to this day. I already had my suspicions about the whole Santa thing, but that confirmed it. I didn't care -- presents were presents no matter who put them under the tree.
