I talked over the hold music and someone picked up!

It's been rumored that call operators can still hear you even when you're on hold.

Look, I was patient. I was reading DU while listening to the hold music. But after 7 minutes I decided to just start talking into my phone:

Hello, is anyone there? Or are you all dead and no one can hear me? Are you all busy fixing other coffee grinders?

Before I got out the last part, someone picked up. Coincidence? I think not!

2. That happened to me!!!

Verizon cut off all my data even though they had authority to charge me for extra gigs, this happened 2 hours before a long road trip!

After being on hold for over 30 minutes I lost my temper and shouted things I would never say, someone picked up.

I was embarrassed to say the least.

I swear some do this to make you hang up!

3. I used to work at a credit union, can confirm

They can hear you, you can't hear them.

I actually got in a lot of trouble for that when I worked at the credit union. I would try to calm down customers while we were on hold with collections or what ever and yeah when they put you on hold they can still hear everything you are saying.

I really hated that job.

6. It sounds awful!

When I call my insurance company, they'll say something like I need to place you on a brief hold, don't hang up, I will get back to you as soon as I have the information.

That makes me think they really will come back. I don't expect people to answer instantly or have the info at their fingertips, but to immediately put you on hold, blast the piano banging music and make you wait beyond 7 minutes is ridiculous.
