What's a good/fair tip to give the guys at the AutoBell car wash *

* for vacuuming the floors and trunk, hand-drying, cleaning glass surfaces, shining the tires. After driving through the automatic car wash, I will sometimes treat myself to having the interior cleaned as well. Often it's a team of 2 or 3 per car (depending on how busy).

If the drive thru premium wash/wax is $40... what's a fair tip for the workers? Perhaps 20% for the team to split? That's $8... or round-up to $10? Or should I tip each one individually?

They clean the interior extensively, wash and dry the exterior and apply tire treatment. I tip the balance of $8 to the tip box (which are split by the workers according to the manager).

They work very hard. I suspect that some of the workers may not be documented but they are excellent.

On extremely hot days, I'll bump it to 25%. Having worked as a technician in my younger days, I fully appreciate how hot and nasty it is to work on cars (whether its repair, detail, or wash) on a 90+ degree day.

No need to tip individually (unless you're getting an in-depth detail, which includes buffing and/or hand waxing). At most car washes, the tips are collected in a single bucket and distributed evenly at the end of the work day.
