Fantastic, timely read from @atrupar.com & @thorbenson.bsky.social. Mark Jacob on the press:
They dont know how to react when Donald Trump says or does something thats mentally deranged. Too often, they try to fit it into a rational frame of reference even though its irrational.

Trump rarely appears in public without raising grave concerns about his mental state. This puts the mainstream media in a difficult position. While calling out Trumps crazed condition has the virtue of being true, it runs the risk of making reporters seem like partisans who are unfair to the president and thus unworthy of access.
As a result, White House journalists too often opt for timidity by doing stenography (never mind that Trump is almost always lying), by sanitizing his rantings and making them seem far more coherent than they really are, and/or by suggesting both sides are to blame for the rapidly deteriorating state of the country.

A major story that probably doesnt get talked about enough is the reality that the president of the United States is, well, out of his mind.
You see it on display every single day. Whether hes gloating over the deaths of revered Americans, fabricating conversations with foreign officials and Americans (he did both yesterday) who always seem to have nothing but praise for him, sleeping through on camera events (he did this yesterday too), making mathematically impossible claims, touting made-up accomplishments, or mangling the English language to the point where he just pretends his creations (mutilization) are actual words, Trump rarely appears in public without raising grave concerns about his mental state.
This puts the mainstream media in a difficult position. While calling out Trumps crazed condition has the virtue of being true, it runs the risk of making reporters seem like partisans who are unfair to the president and thus unworthy of access. (4,576 posts)about sounding "partisan" when all we heard for weeks was concern about President Biden's mental and physical health.
Christ, one prominent journalist who, just sane washed Trump this very Easter Morning, wrote a fucking book about the supposed cover up of Biden's decline. Looking at you Jake Tapper, you weasel.

(55,009 posts)too old and infirm, why cant they call Deranged Donnie out?
Why is it now normal for a President to use a second rate personally owned cheesy social media platform as official pronouncements?
Ya fucking bastards?

(104 posts)And I listened to Morning Edition and All Things Considered every day for decades. I happened to hear a few minutes of their reporting on his Iran speech last week and it was just another normal, presidential speech to them.
