The Twilight Zone on Fascism, By Rod Serling, Sci Fi TV Series, Dennis Hopper
- The Twilight Zone, 'He's Alive,' science fiction/fantasy anthology TV series hosted by Rod Serling, scriptwriter and producer. In this episode, Dennis Hopper plays Peter Vollmer, a young neo-Nazi who receives counsel from a mysterious stranger. Vollmer's brand of street-corner Fascism fails to attract many adherents, and the only person with whom he can communicate is an elderly Holocaust survivor named Ernst. Ernst despises Peter's beliefs, yet feels compassion for him, aware that he grew up in a broken home, desperate for love and attention.
A strange man, whose face is obscured by shadows, begins to advise Peter in the ways of political trickery and murder, and thanks to his intervention the movement rapidly grows, along with Peter's confidence. Later, when a fed-up Ernst denounces and humiliates Peter at a rally, the mysterious supporter reveals his true identity and orders Peter to kill Ernst.
