Trump makes a curious appeal to the CIA ahead of his inauguration
Trump makes a curious appeal to the CIA ahead of his inauguration
The president-elect wants the intelligence agency to "get involved" immediately, "before it is too late." Get involved, how? It's not at all clear.

Donald Trump has had quite a bit to say in the aftermath of the deadly attack in New Orleans, though most of the president-elects rhetoric has been deeply unfortunate. In a series of social media missives, the Republican has peddled ugly misinformation in ways that should do lasting harm to what remains of his credibility.
But one element of Trumps reaction to the violence stood out as especially strange. From one of his online messages:
Weve already discussed why most of Trumps post deserves to be discarded as ridiculous. He has no evidence of widespread prosecutorial corruption; violent scum has not infiltrated the government, and so on.
But it was that last sentence that deserves some follow-up scrutiny: The Central Intelligence Agency, according to the president-elect, must get involved immediately.
Get involved, how, exactly?

The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat [sic] state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself. Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our Country. The CIA must get involved, NOW, before it is too late.

(3,634 posts)1. Lone wolf attacks are virtually unstoppable if the person makes a viable plan and keeps his mouth shut.
Sure, NOLA blew it with leaving vehicle barriers out of place but even a determined person with a knife in a noisy crowd can kill or injure a bunch of people before it becomes clear what is happening. You can almost hear the collective groan from the folks at the CIA as they realize they will be putting together some meaningless task force eating up resources chasing rumors and wisps of nothing. And as its domestic, it really should be the FBI unless someone can find a thread that shows the way to a foreign power directing this sort of stuff in some way.
