Police Tussle With Diabetes Experts at ADA Meeting

Source: MEDPAGE Today

At the American Diabetes Association’s 2026 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, a confrontation unfolded when several prominent diabetes researchers attempted to distribute copies of an editorial critical of recent federal research policy changes. They were stopped by law enforcement and security personnel, with some reportedly shoved, escorted out of the convention center, and threatened with arrest if they returned. The researchers said they were barred from continuing to attend the meeting and described the incident as an act of censorship, raising concerns about limits on scientific expression at major professional gatherings.

This will require a local (NOLA) lawyer who will mos likely work toward a "make it go away" judgment.

Remember, we don't have a sane DOJ, we have a branch of the executive branch whose mission is to act as the enforcement of whatever a despot wants.

This will have to be dealt with locally.....for now.

are pro-Trump. They would have the legal authority to remove anyone they wanted for pretty much any reason they wanted. They are paying for the venue, so it isn't a "public" event.

"Several of the researchers said they believed they were removed partly because the association feared repercussions from the Trump administration."

And the immigration bill that just passed provides tons of money to build more prisons euphemistically called detention centers. Once Trump gets rid of all the migrants, those for-profit prisons will need yo be filled with citizens. Guess who will be targeted.

Of course political stuff is usually reserved to personal conversations, if it comes up at all.

I have personally avoided political conversation at these types of meetings myself.

As far as the reign of the Orange Pedophile I'm sure most scientists are clear on where we stand. The AAAS mailings have certainly referred to the attack on science.

doc consensus conferences in my day, some have been very loud with different opinions as to treatment options being discussed, never were security or law enforcement involved.

They don't go to a conference and face off with the police. I'm a diabetic and have dealt with quacks about the disease over the years.
I will with hold any judgment of the activity until the science they have is proven.

From the article:

Among them was Steven Kahn, MBChB, the lead author of the editorial, which published online in late April in the organization's flagship journal, Diabetes Care. Kahn is also the editor in chief of the journal.
