Congressional Democrats to Demand DOJ Probe Into Kristi Noem for Alleged Perjury

The Department of Justice is set to receive a formal referral urging an investigation into whether former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem committed perjury during her Capitol Hill testimony earlier this month, according to congressional Democrats preparing the request.

The recommendation, according to exclusive reporting by now-former CBS News correspondent Scott MacFarlane, is expected to be delivered Monday to Attorney General Pam Bondi, will come from Senate and House Judiciary Committee Democrats who say several statements Noem made during hearings on March 3 and March 4 may have violated federal laws governing false statements to Congress.

The referral will reportedly be signed by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. Their request will ask the Justice Department to determine whether Noem “knowingly made false statements” while responding to questions about a controversial $220 million taxpayer-funded advertising campaign promoting immigration policies, along with issues surrounding detention facilities, the detention of U.S. citizens, and compliance with federal court orders.

Democrats say the recommendation will cite at least four specific statements from Noem’s testimony that “appear to violate criminal statutes prohibiting perjury and knowingly making false statements to Congress.” During the hearing, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) scolded Noem over the ad campaign and asked whether the president had been aware of plans for the advertisements. Noem replied, “Yes.” However, according to MacFarlane, Democrats plan to reference a subsequent interview with Reuters in which President Donald Trump said, “I never knew anything about it.”

How did DOGE miss that shit. She stole from us, keeps a job, benefits (except for Lewandowski’s package) and retirement. Charge her for it all, take her damn ranch and rescue the livestock.
Put her in an immigration camp, let Bad Bunny dance outside her cell with expensive bling.

Oh please ... sworn testimony vs. what Trump said in an interview? This is just evidence that Trump lied yet again, not evidence of perjury by Noem.

Even if he had said that under oath, his insanity and dementia would cast doubt on its veracity.

I hope the other three lies are more substantial and provable.

I think there is other corroborating evidence that he did NOT authorize that kind of expenditure. I recall seeing stuff reported from apparent "leaks"... although what "authority" he has to micromanage those budgets is suspect given there are apparently few guardrails (and little or no OIG oversight) to rein it in.

I thought someone should ask Trump if she should be prosecuted when he denied what she said.

But this is just silly. Because to file a referral in good faith, they would have to frame Trump as believable, which he isn't. You have her saying he approved it - under oath - and him with his typical nonsense - not under oath. They are weighing what Noem said under oath against what a serial liar said to a tv camera. That's not a referral in good faith. This is just "tit for tat" childishness over the Comey, Falci and Powell referrals.

default position for myriad sworn officials in this corrupt regime can’t be subject to perjurious incrimination. How absolutely assuring that one out of hundreds placed specifically to lie constantly before or outside of oaths in Congress spew their lies as clumsily when a Fox pundit spews on their Friday afternoon Administration leak.

Nominees to every position (including the SC) lie their asses off. Subpoenaed witnesses called to testify lie their asses of. Cabinet appointees called to testify for their actions lie their asses off. It never ends and nothing ever happens.

I'm old enough to remember when being called to testify before Congress was serious and scary because of the threat of punishment for perjury. That was a long long time ago and it pisses me off.
