Trump says U.S. bombed Kharg Island, striking core of Iran's oil economy
Source: Washington Post
About 90 percent of the countrys oil exports move through facilities on Kharg Island, located some 15 miles from the mainland in the Persian Gulf.
President Donald Trump on Friday night announced that the United States had bombed Kharg Island, targeting Irans most critical oil terminal in an attack that Tehran has warned would mark an escalation of the conflict.
Located about 15 miles from the Iranian mainland in the Persian Gulf, Kharg Island is the centerpiece of Irans oil-based economy. About 90 percent of the countrys oil exports move through facilities there, and an attack could strangle what remains of Tehrans economy including the governments limited ability to pay its military.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the U.S. had totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Irans crown jewel. The Washington Post could not immediately independently verify Trumps description of the attack or provide a damage assessment.
Irans Military, and all others involved with this Terrorist Regime, would be wise to lay down their arms, and save whats left of their country, which isnt much! Trump posted while flying from Washington to Palm Beach, Florida, where he is expected to spend the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Trump Says U.S. Bombs Obliterated Military Targets on Kharg Island
The Pentagon is moving a Marine expeditionary unit to the Gulf. Five U.S. Air Force refueling planes were struck at a U.S. air base in Saudi Arabia.
President Trump said on social media that the U.S. obliterated every MILITARY target on Kharg Island, Irans main oil export terminal. The operation was meant to pressure Iran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway that has been largely blocked for oil exports except Irans own.
Iran warned of an escalation in the conflict, saying that if its energy assets are hit, the energy infrastructure of those who cooperate with the U.S. will be immediately destroyed.
Earlier, Trump said the U.S. Navy would start escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz very soon. The Pentagon is moving a Marine expeditionary unit and more warships to the Middle East.
