Before White House Meeting, President Insists U.S. 'Needs Greenland'

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Emile (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: NYT

The Trump administration's renewed interest in purchasing or gaining control over Greenland has met with strong resistance from both the Danish and Greenlandic governments. Greenland's Prime Minister stated that the island's security and future "firmly" belong within NATO and the framework of Denmark, rejecting any hints of a U.S. takeover or annexation.

On the U.S. side, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that, unlike his support for the operations in Venezuela, he opposes any "military intervention" option for Greenland. However, diplomatic tensions remain high as some figures within the administration, particularly JD Vance, continue to emphasize the island's strategic importance ahead of critical meetings with Greenlandic and Danish officials.

Donald Trump expressed his disagreement with the Greenlandic leader's preference for Denmark, maintaining his insistence on the island's strategic and economic potential. Meanwhile, the Danish government reaffirmed its total unity with Greenland ahead of talks with Washington, emphasizing once again that the island is "not for sale."

Putin wanted Ukraine for the same reason: the security of Russia.
Neither one wants to admit that just by not being assholes, they would have all the security they could stand to have, and it would be more profitable without squandering so much money and lives to have it.

... who cannot abide anyone disagreeing with him about anything.
As staggering as his stupidity is, he has to know that we already have multiple bases in Greenland, and the broad latitude to expand them, if necessary. His insistence on "taking over" Greenland is purely a function of his raging malignant narcissism, which manifests itself in his pathological acquisitiveness. He literally believes that he's entitled to own the world. He started with our neighbor to the north, that used to be our greatest trading partner, but now, Canadians wouldn't cross the street to piss in face if he was on fire. Neither would I.
The Orange Hellbeast is destroying America, just as Putin told him to do: From the inside. The proof – not simply evidence, but PROOF – of his treason is overwhelming, but Republicans won't challenge him, and that's not necessarily because of their fear of his vindictiveness, but more because they're in on it, and have been from the git-go.
The GOP deserves to be relegated to the cesspool of depravity that spawned them. Just flush that gold-painted toilet. Yeah, you'll probably have to flush it more than once. And don't even think about fishin' it out; the stench will be too rank for words! Probably gag a maggot. Or is that MAGAt? Whatever.
