Trump demands Microsoft oust global affairs chief over Biden-era ties

President Trump late Friday demanded Microsoft fire its head of global affairs, Lisa Monaco, over her work in the Biden administration.
Why it matters: Trump's push for one of the world's largest companies to oust one of its top executives is the latest example of the administration's broad efforts to exert more active oversight of corporate America.
What they're saying: "It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco," Trump said in a Truth Social post, calling her "Corrupt and Totally Trump Deranged."
Trump described her as a "menace to U.S. National Security," citing Microsoft's government contracts. He withdrew her security clearances last March in the same order where he also withdrew clearances for former president Biden and Hillary Clinton, among others.
The intrigue: Far-right activist Laura Loomer claimed credit for the push to oust Monaco in a post on X, saying she alerted Trump to Monaco's role.
Loomer tagged Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in her post, asking "[A]re you going to comply? Or continue to be two faced?"

(172,000 posts)For the third time in three months, the president has pushed a private-sector giant to fire someone he disliked. The Lisa Monaco example is the most serious.
Trump pretends he is also CEO of Microsoft - orders company to fire Biden administration staffer.

Trump presses Microsoft to âimmediately terminateâ Biden administration veteran www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Trump said on Truth Social ... that Microsoft should immediately terminate its president of global affairs, Lisa Monaco. Monaco previously held a number of top government national security roles, including serving as deputy attorney general for the duration of the Biden administration. Monaco began working for Microsoft in July, according to a LinkedIn post.
As part of a long and rambling online tantrum, the president condemned Monaco as corrupt and deranged, before complaining that she will have access to Highly Sensitive Information in her current role.
Trump added, Monacos having that kind of access is unacceptable, and cannot be allowed to stand. She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government. Because of Monacos many wrongful acts, the U.S. Government recently stripped her of all Security Clearances, took away all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties. It is my opinion that Microsoft should immediately terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco......
Whats more, this an important reflection of the presidents authoritarian vision: Hes not just the president of the United States, he also sees himself as Americas CEO, which he apparently believes affords him great influence over the nations private sector.
NBC News report noted, It is highly unusual for a president to call for a company to fire a private citizen from their job. Thats true or at least, it used to be true......
Putting aside that Trump tried to smear Monaco without cause, his reference to Microsofts government contracts opens a radical and dangerous door: Would the president use his office to steer contracts away from the tech giant unless and until it agreed to fire someone he doesnt like for political reasons? Given his track record, is such a possibility that hard to believe?
