Senate GOP ready to bulldoze Dems on Trump nominees

GOP senators are fed up with Democrats' stall tactics and ready to make big moves to quickly get President Trump's nominees confirmed eyeing everything from rule changes to recess appointments in a sweeping, closed-door discussion Tuesday.
Why it matters: Democrats have been dragging out the confirmation process for all nominees, and Thune has already warned senators to be ready to work into the weekend and potentially longer into the scheduled break.
Ideas discussed in a Tuesday lunch include eliminating the Senate's cloture vote on some nominees, imposing shorter time limits on debates and setting Trump up to make recess appointments, according to people familiar with the discussion. Former GOP leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) who is retiring after this term, and former Senate GOP Whip John Cornyn (Texas) both spoke in favor of some changes, the people said. Support from McConnell, who chairs the Rules Committee and is a staunch institutionalist, would be particularly notable and indicative that changes are likely on the way.
Between the lines: No decision has been made, but multiple attendees described widespread agreement in the conference to take action now.
