FREMONT, Neb. Three people were missing Tuesday after an explosion and fire at an industrial plant in Fremont.
Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg said authorities believe three people were inside the Horizon Biofuels plant just before noon when a massive explosion caused the structural collapse of a large portion of the building.
Fire crews continued to douse the smoldering debris late into the day. Nebraska Task Force 1, an urban search and rescue team from Lincoln Fire & Rescue, was on scene late Tuesday afternoon, ready to assist in search efforts once it was deemed safe to enter.
Firefighters from nine departments responded after the explosion and fire was first reported. A World-Herald photojournalist saw multiple ambulances and volunteer firefighters from Fremont, Cedar Bluffs, Valley, and Waterloo, as well as Fremont police and the Nebraska State Patrol at the scene of the fire.

(19,374 posts)Fremont CA is a big city. Home to (in order) GM, NUMMI and Tesla. My old Tacoma was assembled there. I was not pleased with the dealer delivery cost, since the delivery was about 10 miles. Maybe a chauffeur drove it to the dealer.
John C. Fremont. 😅

Major-General John Charles Frémont (January 21, 1813 July 13, 1890) was a United States Army officer, explorer, and politician. He was a United States senator from California and was the first Republican nominee for president of the U.S. in 1856 and founder of the California Republican Party when he was nominated. He lost the election to Democrat James Buchanan when the vote was split by the Know Nothings.
