Student loan interest charges to kick back in for roughly 8 million borrowers

Source: ABC News

July 9, 2025, 2:19 PM

Roughly 8 million student loan borrowers will see their interest charges restart next month, the Department of Education announced Wednesday.

Borrowers on the Biden-era Saving on a Valuable Education Plan -- about 7.7 million people -- will have interest charges return on Aug. 1 after a yearlong pause on payments. The return to interest charges was first reported by Bloomberg.

"For years, the Biden Administration used so-called 'loan forgiveness' promises to win votes, but federal courts repeatedly ruled that those actions were unlawful," Secretary of Education Linda McMahon wrote in a statement released by the department Wednesday. "Since day one of the Trump Administration, we've focused on strengthening the student loan portfolio and simplifying repayment to better serve borrowers."

The education department said it's complying with a federal court injunction that blocked implementation of the SAVE Plan earlier this year. But education advocates told ABC News that this move is expected to severely impact those millions of borrowers on SAVE who could potentially enter into more debt as interest accrues in the coming weeks.

All those student loan holders blithely saying "there is no difference in the candidates, so why vote?" got just what they didn't bother voting to stop.

Think. Again.

What an unlucky coincidence!

To be frank, if you really don't know how the electoral college rigs our elections, or even if you're just pretending not to know because it feels good to bash possible Blue voters whose votes wouldn't have mattered, you are part of the problem.

On the other hand, if you really want Dems to start winning elections, start being honest about why we're not winning them and stop trying to chase away possible Blue voters.

How did I bash Blue voters? Maybe you just woke up from a nappy. Go get some warm milk.

It's called statistics: if 100% of student loan borrowers had voted for Kamala, then she'd be in the WH. Comprehend?

Think. Again.

...and it seems clear to me your intent was to cause division on the left.

But go ahead, show me the statistics, show me how many student loan borrowers live in the swing states, subtract those who did vote for Harris, and show me how the number that didn't vote for Harris would have changed the election.

and that he wouldn't have to pay back thousands of dollars. But did he vote for Kamala even after I mentioned that Trump would probably make him pay all that money back? I am so disappointed in him.

Those loans would have been from the 80's when tuition was laughable.

People really didnt bother settling those?
