Trump says he doesn't want stocks to go down, 'but sometimes you have to take medicine'

Source: CNBC

Published Sun, Apr 6 20258:19 PM EDT

President Donald Trump said Sunday evening that he is not intentionally engineering the ongoing stock market sell-off, but said little to try and dissuade it. “I don’t want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Sunday night when asked about the markets.

The comments came as U.S. stock futures dropped on Sunday evening, with Dow Jones Industrial average futures sliding 4.1%, accelerating losses that carried through from Thursday and Friday and indicating more selling is likely to hit Monday morning.

He cited the trade deficit with China as his rationale for pressing on with his tariffs plan despite the recent pain in the markets. “We have to solve our trade deficit with China,” he said. “We have a trillion-dollar trade deficit with China, hundreds of billions of dollars a year we lose with China. And unless we solve that problem, I’m not going to make a deal.”

“I’m willing to deal with China,” he added, “but they have to solve their surplus.” He added that he spoke with European and Asian leaders over the weekend on the tariffs rolled out by his administration, which are expected to take effect in the coming week.

"Dealing with the trade surplus" with China is many years away thanks to past GOP policy of "outsourcing", "off-shoring", and "cheap labor", with little or no regulation.

If you are surrounded by countries, like say a bully is surrounded by antagonists, you, the bully would not want to attack a bunch of countries at one time because they can swarm you and subdue you. Smarter strategy would be to pick a country and win against them before taking on another country.

But tRump has taken on the whole world. So instead of a focused battle, tRump is fighting everybody all at the same time. The world can gang up on the bully and may be backed into a corner where they have to fight him together.

European Union even on its own is a bigger economy than USA.

What needs fixing, and is the plan to fix it working yet?

Please reply quickly, Mr Trump, before the decline becomes a self-perpetuating monster that impoverishes the whole world.

Anyhow, this is all part of the behind the scenes Trump plan - to be the centre of attention, to be seen as bigly powerful, and to affect as many people as possible.
That the economy is sliding off a cliff is not all that relevant to Trump.

couldn't decide where he stood on vaccines during and after a pandemic.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/4517350-trump-vaccine-rhetoric-public-health/

Throughout the campaign, Trump has performed a complicated tap dance regarding COVID vaccines. He simultaneously wants to take credit for their speedy development but has also criticized their use and knocked his now former rivals for being too pro-vaccine.

Fuckin idiot.

pivoted. Before that happened, though, he wanted to play the role of the heroic savior by taking credit for the vaccines.

Of course, no one of consequence ever called him out on this shit.

Heck why don't he start slow with forcing business to get rid of the dang automated answering services that make you push 1 or 2 for thsi or that and then if you ever get to talk to a person it's somebody somewhere at some foreign answering service that speaks with such an accent you cant even understand them!! Bring back those jobs to America!! And those danged self checkouts at all these businesses really get on my nerves!! Get rid of that crap it will bring back a lot of jobs along with bag boys who take your groceries out for you and pick up grocery carts instead of forcing you to go put them in some out of the way carts here spot!! If he wants to make America great again that would be two great ways to start and would bring back tons of jobs!! But "oh no!" that would be "communism/socialism" to make to regulations that tell businesses how to do their jobs!! I could think of tons of others but i would only be wasting my time and building up my blood pressure!! Lol!!
