'He Doesn't Understand': Trump Trade Advisor Peter Navarro Fires Back at Elon Musk Attacking Him on Tariffs

Source: MEDIAite

Apr 6th, 2025, 11:17 am

Peter Navarro — senior counselor on manufacturing and trade to President Donald Trump — fired back after Elon Musk attacked him over tariffs. In an interview on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Navarro argued Musk’s self-interests as CEO of Tesla are driving his apparent skepticism about tariffs.

“Every country around the world cheats us,” Navarro said. “But it’s like fingerprints — they all do it in different ways. But it all comes down to the non-tariff cheating. It was interesting to hear Elon Musk at the beginning talk about a zero-tariff zone with Europe. He doesn’t understand that. And the thing that’s, I think, important about Elon to understand, he sells cars. That’s what he does.”

Anchor Jackie DeAngelis — filling in for Maria Bartiromo — brought up the comments on X by Musk in which he went after Navarro.“He ain’t built shit,” Musk said of Navarro. The Fox News anchor questioned whether there is a fissure inside the White House. “[Musk] took a shot at you personally on X, and he’s going against the administration with respect to the tariff policy,” DeAngelis said. “The president has said in the coming months he may leave the administration. Peter, is there a rift internally?”

Navarro denied the existence of a rift — but also dismissed his criticism completely. “No, I mean, look, Elon, when he’s in his DOGE lane, he’s great,” Navarro said. “But we understand what’s going on here. We just have to understand Elon sells cars and he’s, in Texas, assembling cars that have big parts of that car from Mexico, China, the batteries come from Japan or China, The electronics come from Taiwan. And he’s simply protecting his own interests as any business person would do.

Exactly, Pete, you dingbat. Musk is a lunatic but he does understand what tariffs do to businesses. And all the other business people are going to want to protect their interests, too. Which is precisely why the stock market is doing what it's doing.

Except lives are at stake and people are dying. Injustice is rampant. And the media just moves the script along, never questioning the validity of the chaos and destruction. It has created massive apathy. Fuck you MSM.

For those who don’t know, Ron Vera is referenced regularly in Navarro’s book Death by China. It’s an anagram for himself. Ron doesn’t exist.

https://motorandwheels.com/does-tesla-outsource-manufacturing/

He sources chips from South Korea on the newest models. Sources lithium from China. Some parts are manufactured in other countries, including Japan.

The company outsources the lithium needed from Ganfeng Lithium Co. Ltd, a company in China. The required nickel is from an Australian mining company called BHP, and the cobalt needed is from Glencore, an Anglo-Swiss company.

Justice matters.

Which has taken about a 50 point nose dive in the 2 trading days since the Convicted Felon announced the tariffs. Tesla has to report earnings at the end of this month. The overall market drop in the stock price coupled with a likely report of a double digit drop in Tesla car sales world wide could easily tank this stock by dozens of additional points.

Some of the banks and shareholders who hold the loans (with Tesla stock used as security) that make up much of Leon's "wealth" could come calling if the price of Tesla stock tanks over the next several weeks.

It shows that the discipline so lacking in his first term — as he hopelessly sought to keep infighting private — is again fraying. This will only get better. I expect a high-level resignation if he doesn’t retreat on tariffs soon.

Throw them all in the bag and let the tear each other apart. At this point, I don't really care which of them emerge with most of their limbs. We'll deal with them later.

Trump and Navarro are possibly the two least qualified people on the entire planet to be doing anything about anything economic. Everybody know that, but they figured they had to let Trump have his fun.

But in 3 trading days of 5% losses each (Thursday, Friday and I'm already calling it for Monday), they see this has the potential to be another Great Depression sort of event that sends them all to the wilderness for decades once again.

Trump’s administration looks like a continuation of the nonsense that occurred after the 2020 election. His economic team is of about the same caliber as the legal team of Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Sydney Powell, etc. A team of clowns who peddle nonsense and make a lot of trouble.
