Trump Administration Revokes All Visas for South Sudan's Citizens

Source: Newsweek

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Saturday the revocation of all U.S. visas held by South Sudanese passport holders and will restrict future visa issuance, citing South Sudan's failure to accept the return of its citizens when the United States seeks to remove them. Newsweek reached out to the State Department, the U.S. Embassy in Juba, South Sudan, and the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan via email on Saturday for comment.

Why It Matters

This marks the first measure under the second Trump administration that singles out all passport holders from a specific country since Trump returned to the White House in January.

This latest measure comes amid a broader immigration crackdown that includes the administration's move last month to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans, which was temporarily blocked by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen.

What Is Temporary Protected Status?

TPS is a program administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that offers protection to eligible foreign nationals who cannot safely return to their home countries due to extraordinary circumstances. The Secretary of Homeland Security may designate a country for TPS due to ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary conditions.

the latter actually being a relatively "new" country - breaking off from Sudan in 2011. I remember when now-deceased talk host Joe Madison was actively involved in South Sudan getting its independence. It's a shame what has happened there in terms of their civil war.

8. First they Came For: 2025 style

Martin Niemöller’s poem rings prophetic today:

First they came for the Black people in the US because they were DEI.
Then they came for anyone who one lived south of the US border, especially anyone not speaking English as a primary language and/or melanated
Then they came for Middle Eastern people, especially the Muslim followers.

We have to keep up the heat on this administration, because you or I could be next.

even further.

South Sudan has been on the brink of state failure for years. This move is not just cruel, it's stupid.

... it implicitly says that there are no individuals, only blocs. Easy to do when the people are not familiar with the class as a whole and are ready to believe anything of them, but it's amazing how these bigots always make exceptions for members of the class they do know. They're "different," almost honorary people.
