Trump Shares Video About How He Is 'Purposely Crashing the Stock Market'

Financial markets are taking a nosedive for the second straight day amid global panic and investor anxiety over Donald Trumps implementation of broad tariffs on foreign imports. Economists are warning that the presidents actions are putting not just the United States, but the world at risk of a global recession, and that working class Americans will experience acute economic pain. Fret not, says the president, he is apparently playing chess while the world is playing checkers whatever that means. Even some of his most prominent GOP supporters arent buying it.
On Friday morning, the president shared a link on Truth Social to what appears to be a video claiming that he was Purposely CRASHING The Market. The one-minute video originally shared March 15 on TikTok predates the presidents tariff announcement on Wednesday. It claims that Trump is crashing the stock market by 20 percent this month, but hes doing it on purpose. [
] Heres the secret game hes playing, and it could make you rich.
The video proposes that Trump is attempting to push cash into treasuries, which forces the Fed to slash interest rates in May, and those lower rates give the Fed the ability to refinance trillions of debt very inexpensively. It also weakens the dollar and drops mortgage rates. Now its a wild chess move, but its working. What about his tariffs? Ill tell you, its a genius play, the video adds. It actually forces companies to build here to dodge them. It also forces farmers to sell more of their products here in the U.S., to bring grocery prices way down. Weve already seen this with eggs. Now, remember, 94 percent of all stocks are owned only by 8 percent of Americans.
So Trump, hes taking from the rich short term and handing it to the middle class through lower prices. Sound dodgy and completely made up? Dont stress, the video makes sure to point out that super rich guy Warren Buffett just said [that] Trump is making the best economic moves hes seen in over 50 years. Only Warren Buffett never said that. He actually called Trumps proposed tariff regime an act of war.

(6,198 posts)Some sort of acting out against the world order is going on here. I'm no psychologist, but "oppositional defiance disorder" acted out on a global scale comes to mind.
He destroys everything he touches. Idiots in the U.S. fell for the con a second time, giving him the opportunity to burn the world down without restraint (thanks to a compliant puke party).
What an insane situation. History will weep for all of the harm he inflicts. Un-effing-believable.

(1,337 posts)He could have just claimed he was purposely making the price of eggs go up in order to fix the economy. All the talking head conservative TV economists would have agreed he was a financial strategic genius.

(17,817 posts)... and being economically stupid can sound positively bad ass. For example, couldn't you see JD Vance saying something along the lines of the following:
In a world reliant on collective systems like unions, healthcare, and worker compensation, there remains a belief in the enduring power of individual strength and self-reliance. This philosophy celebrates the "lone wolf," a man who, like the iconic John Rambo, embodies resilience, courage, and determination to navigate life's challenges on his own terms.
Rambos legendary survival against overwhelming odds serves as a potent symbol of this ideology. In one memorable instance, when gravely injured, he didnt turn to a hospital or external aid. Instead, he took a heated knife to cauterize his own wounda raw, striking act of self-reliance that underscores the belief in personal ingenuity over institutional support. For the lone wolf, challenges are opportunities to demonstrate inner strength and to grow tougher through adversity.
This perspective views unions, healthcare systems, and worker compensation as tools that, while helpful, risk fostering dependency. The lone wolf values personal accountability and sees rights not as granted by institutions but as protected through vigilance and action. Success, in this worldview, is earned through sheer grit, hard work, and unyielding spirit, unencumbered by reliance on external structures.
While critics might argue that the lone wolf path overlooks the importance of community and shared support, for its adherents, it embodies a pure form of independence. It celebrates masculinity in its rawest form, where triumphs are deeply personal and resilience is a mark of true strength. For the lone wolf, lifes hardships are not a hindrancethey are the proving grounds of greatness.
So, you just question the masculinity of male Trump voters, and you can take away their health care, collective bargaining rights, pensions, etc., and they will even cheer you on.

(48,330 posts)that is simply not how any of this works. Buying more treasury bonds lowers rates through supply and demand, since their price moves in the opposite direction of rate. It doesn't force the Fed to do anything. Powell has spoken publicly about the consequences. Many economists have.
But MAGAts will trust some random dude on tiktok.
