White House to remove magnolia tree dating to Andrew Jackson

Source: The Hill

The White House will remove from its property a magnolia tree planted nearly 200 years ago with seeds said to have been brought from former President Jackson’s home in Tennessee.

President Trump announced Sunday that, after consulting with the Executive Residence Staff and the National Park Service, the administration has decided to replace the tree, saying it poses a safety hazard.

“The bad news is that everything must come to an end, and this tree is in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, at the White House Entrance, no less, and must now be removed,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, noting that the “good news” is that his administration is “making tremendous enhancements to the White House.”

“This process will take place next week, and will be replaced by another, very beautiful tree,” Trump said.

The tree is coming down so he can finally give Jacqueline Kennedy's Rose Garden the kiss of death by burying the whole thing under an outdoors dance floor. The painful reaction from Caroline and her son is what diarrhea Don feasts on. He is in seventh heaven on his revenge and retribution tour.

The Rose Garden is Caroline Kennedy's last link to the 'Camelot atmosphere she grew up in until it was all taken away by the assassins bullets. If the republican congress had any kind of decency among them, they would talk him down from burying the Garden remnants, at least until she has passed for chrissakes.

But that was why the First Tramp had her tennis pavilion built on the White House grounds. It was big enough to justify digging up Obama's half court basketball court and sending out all to the dump. Other peoples pain is obviously delicious to them.

The tree is located near the South Portico, which is east of the Rose Garden.

Of course, he may want to take out all of the trees between the East edge of the Rose Garden and the west curvature of the South Portico in order to maximize the paved area.

I caught him earlier today saying the tree was coming down as part of his dance floor plans, without stating what that meant. I can only assume he's offended by falling leaves, and dripping tree sap getting on the ballroom gowns of the fair ladies of Palm Beach.

I think he thinks he's going to throw a dance, on the now buried Rose Garden, that will look like a cross between Gone With The Wind meets the Sound Of Fucking Music with not a Black person in sight.

As an aside--I think it grand they showed Biden with the tree instead of Trumpy. I guess he will have a fit when he sees this. te he.

The average magnolia tree lives 80-120 years. I mean, there's a lot to be mad at Trump for, but I'm not sure getting worked up over a 200 year old tree that may be in the final stage of life is one of them.

Wed December 27, 2017

The south facade of the White House will undergo a dramatic change this week: the historic Jackson Magnolia, a tree that has been in place since the 1800s, is scheduled to be cut down and removed.

The enormous magnolia, one of three on the west side of the White House and the oldest on the White House grounds, extends from the ground floor, up past the front of the windows of the State Dining Room on the first floor and beyond the second-level executive residence. The tree has had a long and storied life, yet has now been deemed too damaged and decayed to remain in place.

Specialists at the United States National Arboretum were brought in by the White House to assess the Magnolia grandiflora, as it is specifically termed. According to documents obtained exclusively by CNN, the tree must be removed, and quickly, despite efforts to preserve it over several decades. The documents read in part:

of Rachel Jackson (who died before her husband was inaugurated) or her niece, Emily Donelson, who served in the role of First Lady. Either would be a more sympathetic figure than Andrew Jackson. Who knows, maybe Emily had a hand in planting the magnolias.

Or maybe a sculpture commemorating the Trail of Tears and/or the Indian Removal Act, brainchild of POTUS Jackson.

It seems like there has been a lot of mitigation done to save it over the years, too. It probably hasn't gotten any better in the last 7 years.

Hopefully the arborists who remove it save seeds or cuttings for future generations to reestablish the tree.

This is one issue that doesn't need chest beating over. It passed its lifespan years ago, and though the efforts to keep it going have been laudable, it'll become the symbol of a decaying America. Come to think of it, maybe that's a good reason to keep it!
