'At Risk Of My Job': CNBC Reporter Sounds Alarm On 'Insane' Donald Trump Move

Source: HuffPost

-snip-

“I’m going to say this at risk of my job but what President Trump is doing is insane. It is absolutely insane,” Liesman said on Tuesday’s broadcast of “The Exchange.”

“And now he’s saying he’s putting 50% tariffs on Canada unless they agree to become the 51st state,” the journalist continued. “That is insane. There is just no other way of describing it.”

-snip-

“The other thing that’s not talked about,” he added, “is what’s going on within the administration in terms of how they’re treating the Constitution and laws.”

“I think all of that is bad for the attraction of capital,” Liesman argued. “We need massive amounts of capital if we want to fund our deficits, pay for the things we want to pay for, sell our bonds and have high stock prices. And it seems as if this administration is doing everything it can to chase foreign capital away.”

This was a real "The emperor has no clothes" moment for CNBC. I haven't heard yet whether Trump is openly calling for Liesman to be fired, but I suspect that's already happened behind the scenes.

Video at the link. Liesman starts talking about 2:50 there, but that video cuts off a few seconds before the video Brian Tyler Cohen posted on Bluesky:

https://bsky.app/profile/briantylercohen.bsky.social/post/3lk5magb7vk2f

What the CNBC video cut off was Kelly Evans foolishly trying to suggest this is "insanity as a strategy" - which Liesman immediately interrupted: "Insanity's not a strategy."

He had some cohost on - message - it’s ALL opinion. Anything you hear (not on Fox) is aaaalll opinion based on politics

Good to see someone actually mentioning this.

The dollar is done as the worlds reserve currency if there is no rule of law. Which means, we are done, debt default, Greatest ever Depression . .

“The other thing that’s not talked about is what’s going on within the administration in terms of how they’re treating the Constitution and laws.”

“I think all of that is bad for the attraction of capital. We need massive amounts of capital if we want to fund our deficits, pay for the things we want to pay for, sell our bonds and have high stock prices. And it seems as if this administration is doing everything it can to chase foreign capital away.”

dot com mania when veteran business anchor Mark Haines called out his co-host Joe Kernen over the madness of of interviewing "companies" with no money, no assets, no customers and nothing but "dot com" as part of their name and then watching as soon as the interview ended and the stock of said company rising to the moon. Kernen defended it all and CNBC moved on to full "carnival barker" mode with Jim Cramer etc.

But I remember when Haines said it because the look on Kernen's face was priceless and you could tell the producers giving instructions to the other hosts through their earpieces must have crapped their pants because the quick banter normal for the show stopped and things began to go from silence to "umms" and "wells".

Basically the newest term for the ridiculous “he isn’t an imbecile; he js playing amazing 4D chess that you commies don’t understand.”

Cathy Wood had some insane thesis about Trump causing “deflationary boom.” That’s like celebrating “weight loss to severe obesity.” Deflation happens in economic collapse due to mass defaults and destruction of the money supply.
