Target CEO Warns Of Soaring Food Costs Under Trump Tariffs

Source: crooksandliars.com

In case anyone still thinks Trump will lower grocery costs.

By NewsHound Ellen — March 5, 2025

As The Daily Beast noted, while Donald Trump repeatedly and falsely claims that his tariffs will be paid by foreign countries, in reality, “they’re a tax paid by American companies, with the costs passed on to consumers.”

Target CEO Brian Cornell underscored that point on CNBC Tuesday morning. Cornell sounded generally upbeat about Target in his interview. But if you’re a shopper, the picture is a lot less rosy.

Toward the end of the interview, host Becky Quick asked about Trump’s tariffs’ effects on prices. Cornell tried to sugarcoat: “We’ve done a lot of scenario planning” in order “to understand what are the different options that we might have to face,” he said.

Bottom line: prices are going to rise sharply. Cornell said Target depends on Mexico, a Trump-tariff target, “for a significant amount” of fruits and vegetables. “We’re going to try to make sure we can do everything we can try to protect pricing but if there's a 25% tariff, those prices will go up,” he added. He predicted that will happen “over the next couple of days.”

I hate watched the FOX morning show and they blamed higher prices on “incompetent management due to DEI.”

We're 100% on our own. Even with mid term victory we will still have wait until till Jan 2027 to be able to turn this shit storm around.

5. Will trump EVER understand tariffs?

Or will he stay with his usual MO—that whatever he says either is or becomes the truth? Does he think if he says that the exporters pay the tariffs enough times, it will be true? When prices soar, will he be aware of it? Will he start to have a concept of an understanding of tariffs when inflation goes nuts?

Nearest Target is 90 miles from us. I did not know they sell fruits and vegetables.

We have a Walmart, but it seems like the favored locale for mass shooters, so we try not to go there.

I feel safer in the store and in the parking lot, too. At Target, there are NEVER any shrink-wrapped pallets of un-shelved merchandise left on the floor for customers to pick-through themselves. I like the Target app that helps me to locate which aisle something is displayed on (very useful when I'm trying to locate something new, or when I'm in an unfamiliar Target in another city.)

He can go f6ck the h3ll off. Deleted the app and emailed the company telling them to delete my account. When they apologize and offer great deals as a gesture of goodwill, I'll return. I don't anticipate that happening while this clown and his team are at the helm.

get big bonuses. Now, they can say their 40% increase and 40% job cuts are because of the 20% tariff.

Next they will hire delivery services that you not only pay for but will have to tip and they can find a way to pawn off on you their not-so-good veggies all to make a bigger profit. - NEVER MIND! They do that already.
