Trump could scale back Canada, Mexico tariffs Wednesday, Lutnick says

Source: CNBC

MAR 4 20255:18 PM EST

President Donald Trump will “probably” announce tariff compromise deals with Canada and Mexico soon, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Tuesday.

The potential agreements would likely involve scaling back at least part of Trump’s brand new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, he added.

Lutnick’s comments came minutes after the U.S. stock market limped to a close for a second day of sharp declines, spurred at least in part by investors’ fears that Trump’s aggressive policies will ignite a crippling trade war.

After his remarks, U.S. stock futures tied to all three major averages rose.

Someone says Lets Annex Canada. Everyone hollers Yea, great idea.. No one ever asks a person not in the yes man group.

These situations are more than likely wrong rather than correct.

They have never heard of the Tenth Man rule..

The Tenth Man Rule suggests that if nine people in a group of ten agree on an issue, the tenth member must take a contrarian viewpoint and assume the other nine are wrong. This tactic is used to prevent group think and encourage critical thinking.

I had to correct a word in subject line... Got to love autocorrect and my stupidity to not check it

Nothing really to base it on, just a feeling. And there was Rubio trying to disappear between the cushions on the couch in the Oval Office the other day. He knows the score but has sold out.

So many corrupt enablers thinking they can control him.

There is too much blowback/bad press on trump's extremely stupid tariff plan. trump has to back down yet again because tariffs are stupid.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/04/business/us-tariffs-trade-deal-mexico-canada

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that President Donald Trump could announce a trade deal with Mexico and Canada as soon as tomorrow, just one day after the US imposed punishing tariffs on the two nations and sparked retaliatory levies.

“I think he’s going to work something out with them,” Lutnick said on Fox Business. “It’s not going to be a pause, none of that pause stuff, but I think he’s going to figure out, you do more, and I’ll meet you in the middle some way, and we’re going to probably be announcing that tomorrow.”

Trump’s policies have added uncertainty for the world’s biggest economy. The whipsaw application of tariffs and signs that perhaps that policy could change, all within a 24-hour span, have complicated decisions for businesses and increased pressure on an economy already showing signs of strain......

Lutnick said he had spoken with both Canadian and Mexican representatives about trade among the three countries.

A Canadian government source confirmed to CNN that Canadian Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc spoke with the US commerce secretary on Tuesday.

The 25% tariffs come after Trump also imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods, raising that country’s rate to 20%.

The fake reality show must end. People’s lives are being destroyed. We know that these events cause violence within families and communities, as well as suicides.

Instead of concerning himself with these Americans, Lutnik is falsely suggesting that the rollback means Trump has succeeded. He expects us to act as though this is believable.

We cannot participate in saving face for Trump. It is time for the Leopard to feast on the face of the imaginary Leader.

We have watched the high and the mighty privileged and once respected fall for years now. The only path forward is Democracy.

Everyone thought it was an act, it's not this is how he does business. I watched some of them years ago when they were new and he would be all over the place telling them to do something then stop and do something else or change his mind.

The trouble is all of these idiots that work for him think that running the government is the same as running a company. The other thing is his companies aren't that big at the executive level,, sure his hotels and golf course have lots of workers but his sudden shifts never make it down that far so nothing really breaks. It's a totally different story with the government.

Then, people have to work until they drop to make these assholes richer. Then, the healthcare industry has no obligation to do anything that will not bring in income. Not to mention the fact that they can remove your retirement at any time since they have control over it all, thanks to the sellouts that own most of our big businesses.

They plan to dismantle everything to impose the new oligarchy. And, we are letting them because we want to preserve 'decorum'.
