Federal technology staffers resign rather than help Musk and DOGE

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 20 civil service employees resigned Tuesday from billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they were refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the 21 staffers wrote in a joint resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”

The employees also warned that many of those enlisted by Musk to help him slash the size of the federal government under President Donald Trump’s administration were political ideologues who did not have the necessary skills or experience for the task ahead of them.

The mass resignation of engineers, data scientists and product managers is a temporary setback for Musk and the Republican president’s tech-driven purge of the federal workforce. It comes amid a flurry of court challenges that have sought to stall, stop or unwind their efforts to fire or coerce thousands of government workers out of jobs.

The Doge idiots are running people away

Twenty-one United States Digital Service technology staffers just resigned today in what is being seen as a mass protest resignation against the efforts of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to a federal government employee with knowledge of the resignations.

These are, according to this source, “Your most skilled people – pretty much handling the top priorities – they all just resigned. Engineers, designers, data scientists, project managers, leading work on critical projects across the government..”

These are workers who were USDS, which is the agency that became DOGE.

“It is people who don’t want to be a part of this. For this group…it is a protest. They don’t want to be a part of it.”

The Tuesday after the “Valentine’s Day firing” was the first time DOGE led the team’s staff meeting, the source said. The message was acknowledging it had been a very tough few days and meant to turn the page, the source said. But, according to the source, it “did not go over well,” which prompted people to start the conversations, “is there anything to save, what should people do.”

This source said the decision was made by a group to resign en masse today.

For IT, there are many transferrable skills that can be used elsewhere. So I can understand people who don't want to stick with Musk and feel like they are part of the problem.

They refuse to cooperate and resign (kudos to them) but that just leaves empty seats for Musk to fill with hand-picked flunkies who WILL do what is ordered. While I applaud their courage it makes me wonder if it's more courageous to stay? But then again that's probably impossible. Refuse and resign or stay and get fired "for cause." Lose-lose all the way around.

If they stayed, they'd have to do the Muskratfucker's bidding or be fired. Considering those choices, I can't blame them for getting out now.
