Biden Rips Efforts To 'Erase' History Of Jan. 6 Riot, Says There Won't Be A Repeat This Time

Source: Huff Post/AP

President Joe Biden is decrying what he calls an “unrelenting effort” to downplay a mob of Donald Trump supporters overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block certification of the 2020 election — seeking to contrast that day’s chaos with what he promises will be an orderly transition returning Trump to power for a second term.

In an opinion piece published Sunday in The Washington Post, Biden recalled Jan. 6, 2021, writing that “violent insurrectionists attacked the Capitol.” “We should be proud that our democracy withstood this assault,” Biden wrote. “And we should be glad we will not see such a shameful attack again this year.”

Congress will convene amid snow in Washington on Monday to certify Trump’s victory in November’s election — in a session presided over by the candidate he defeated, Vice President Kamala Harris. No violence, or even procedural objections, are expected this time, marking a return to a U.S. tradition that launches the peaceful transfer of presidential power.

That’s despite Trump continuing to deny that he lost to Biden in 2020, already musing publicly about staying beyond the Constitution’s two-term White House limit, and promising to pardon some of the more than 1,250 people who have pleaded guilty or were convicted of crimes for the Capitol siege.

You held off the kristofascist G.O.P., inc. & their corrupt black-ops russian comrades for four years. Thank you. That's huge - as are all the solids you did for the nation -- tangible GOOD that will continue to manifest for years.

Now you step aside, and we must be our own champions in defense of basic honesty and decency, and the American democracy.

We are up the challenge. That's how I see it. We shall overcome.

I will never forget standing in front of my tv watching the putsch happen in real time...
As insurrectionists crawled up the sides of the Capitol building, smashed windows and doors, and assaulted outnumbered and outgunned Capitol police, I was in shock and kept saying, “Where is the National Guard? Where is the National Guard?! “

In the weeks leading up to Jan. 6 there were many reliable reports on DU of planned violence by the Right Wing. It was bad enough that when a couple of people here said they would go to DC themselves to counter-protest and engage physically, I was one who said urgently that they should stay far away.

Anyone from any branch of federal government who claimed they had no idea what was coming was lying or had their heads so far up their own asses — no, they were lying. We knew, and what are we but a civilian discussion board. WE KNEW, and that means THEY KNEW.

They tried to decapitate our federal government. We are so accustomed to the informality of dropping officials’ proper titles — “Pence” and “Pelosi” and so on. As the day went on and none of the news people said it — it finally clicked for me: the insurrectionists screeching to hang Mike Pence and promising to drag Nancy out by her hair and put a bullet thru her brain were referencing the line of succession: the Vice President and Speaker of the House.

And all I could do from the other side of the continent was beg whatever gods may be for the National Guard to show up.

Cry the beloved country.

is that the insurrectionist won. Pardon me if I don't participate in the patting ourselves on the back.

I was wondering how long it would take for him to do this. Other Repugs have been publicly advocating this for months. He'll claim either that he's still entitled to the election that was stolen from him (he cannot let that go), or that because of all the illegal witch hunt investigations that disrupted his first administration he is entitled to run again -- or just be handed the presidency outright. Maybe he should get two more terms to make up for all the harm that's been inflicted on him.

I'm betting that before the end of this year he announces he's going to run again in 2028. His acolytes will praise his bold and necessary decision, and the SCOTUS will take up the case (they don't have to do it) and at the end of the term issue an opinion will be issued that regretfully he can't run again. It won't be unanimous, however. Justices Thomas and Alito will dissent.

Why won't this man die, so the world can escape his insanity?

Since he doesn't want flags at half-staff when he's around, that honor won't occur when he croaks. Just put his fat ass on the back of a golf cart and dump it in a pit next to Ivana's grave next to the first hole at his club in New Jersey.
