Tesla Cybertruck driver struggled with mental health, investigators say
Source: Washington Post
The active-duty Green Beret who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was likely suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and had written a note found on his charred phone stating that he hoped his actions would serve as a wake-up call to the American people, investigators revealed Friday.
Screenshots shared by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department show Matthew Livelsberger had written several messages on his phones Notes app. In one, the decorated U.S. soldier said Americans would pay attention only to spectacles and violence. In another, Livelsberger said he needed to relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took.
The writings and new details about his time in the military and his actions in the days leading to the explosion paint a picture of a man haunted by his experiences overseas and closer to home. Investigators said they do not think he held any grievances against President-elect Donald Trump and instead pointed to his deteriorating mental state to explain the explosion.
Las Vegas police said Livelsberger shot himself in the head. The Cybertruck hed rented then exploded, leaving seven bystanders with minor injuries.

Livelsberger urged people to rally around Trump and Musk, Teslas CEO and a close ally to the president-elect, to ride this wave to the highest hegemony for all Americans!
Focus on strength and winning, he wrote. Masculinity is good and men must be leaders. Strength is a deterrent and fear is the product.

I heard this guy characterized as a Rambo type. It might be all the worse for someone who values that image but also has the humanity to feel the guilt and heartbreak of legalized murder.

I don't think military people in general are trained to be ruthless killers. Many of the greatest peace activists I've ever met were military veterans.
And the flags are still at half mast for Jimmy Carter....

Green Berets should be schooled in history and logic before being bestowed with weapons and lethal training.
It was his own sickness, his own lack of self respect that needed healing. I'm sorry he didn't know where to look for it.
What this guy really needed was a Weekend at Bernie's.

Will they mutiny against their officers who don't carry out TSF's orders? Will they become militias within the Military? Lone wolves?

(2,059 posts)worst orders. But I don't think the military attracts in sufficient numbers the kind of clear thinking, historical understand, conscience, and especially courage it would take to do the right thing.

(111 posts)Well I'm sure he had mental health issues from his time in the military, if he was instrumental in taking the lives of others that is a heavy burden to carry. But when he says "Americans would pay attention only to spectacles and violence" he shows his delusional thinking. He created a spectacle because he wanted Americans to pay attention to him. From what I've read it seems he was lost in the right-wing fever swamps of the magat movement. That alone is a dangerous place to be but when you combine those extreme political or religious movements with his obvious serious mental health issues that is a terrible and deadly place to be. Unfortunately the tabloid media culture in this country will give him exactly what he wanted, attention.
