Tesla Cybertruck driver struggled with mental health, investigators say

Source: Washington Post

The active-duty Green Beret who blew up a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas was likely suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and had written a note found on his charred phone stating that he hoped his actions would serve as a “wake-up call” to the American people, investigators revealed Friday.

Screenshots shared by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department show Matthew Livelsberger had written several messages on his phone’s Notes app. In one, the decorated U.S. soldier said Americans would pay attention only to “spectacles and violence.” In another, Livelsberger said he needed to “relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took.”

The writings and new details about his time in the military and his actions in the days leading to the explosion paint a picture of a man haunted by his experiences overseas and closer to home. Investigators said they do not think he held any grievances against President-elect Donald Trump and instead pointed to his deteriorating mental state to explain the explosion.

Las Vegas police said Livelsberger shot himself in the head. The Cybertruck he’d rented then exploded, leaving seven bystanders with minor injuries.

It’s so self written. They can not deny.

There’s something wrong with my head. Guess I’ll go vote. Cause I’m a patriot.

“Livelsberger urged people to rally around Trump and Musk, Tesla’s CEO and a close ally to the president-elect, to “ride this wave to the highest hegemony for all Americans!”

““Focus on strength and winning,” he wrote. “Masculinity is good and men must be leaders. Strength is a deterrent and fear is the product.””

Why are we surprised.

I heard this guy characterized as a Rambo type. It might be all the worse for someone who values that image but also has the humanity to feel the guilt and heartbreak of legalized murder.

After basic training my dad was sent off to be a Radar O'Reilly medical clerk and my father-in-law was trained to be a Navy corpsman assigned to the Marines.

I don't think military people in general are trained to be ruthless killers. Many of the greatest peace activists I've ever met were military veterans.

And the flags are still at half mast for Jimmy Carter....

If you’re in the military and you need therapy, it’s seen as a weakness and hurts your career advancement. And that’s straight from a career army man who needs therapy imo. (I get to have that opinion because my parents are his parents and they screwed us all up)

The spin is on.

Also, his family brags about how he was a Trump supporter. It was all in the media yesterday.

So Trump will solve the problem of the top 1%? Get everyone fit, eating healthy food, off of screens? And prepare us for a war with Russia?
Green Berets should be schooled in history and logic before being bestowed with weapons and lethal training.
It was his own sickness, his own lack of self respect that needed healing. I'm sorry he didn't know where to look for it.

What this guy really needed was a Weekend at Bernie's.

so they just ignore the issue as it gets worse. Meanwhile Trump/MAGA tie it to immigration when there is no connection. The connection is to MAGA and Trump.

Will they mutiny against their officers who don't carry out TSF's orders? Will they become militias within the Military? Lone wolves?

worst orders. But I don't think the military attracts in sufficient numbers the kind of clear thinking, historical understand, conscience, and especially courage it would take to do the right thing.

Well I'm sure he had mental health issues from his time in the military, if he was instrumental in taking the lives of others that is a heavy burden to carry. But when he says "Americans would pay attention only to “spectacles and violence" he shows his delusional thinking. He created a spectacle because he wanted Americans to pay attention to him. From what I've read it seems he was lost in the right-wing fever swamps of the magat movement. That alone is a dangerous place to be but when you combine those extreme political or religious movements with his obvious serious mental health issues that is a terrible and deadly place to be. Unfortunately the tabloid media culture in this country will give him exactly what he wanted, attention.
