Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu to undergo prostate removal surgery, his office says

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday after he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, his office said.

The 75-year-old leader underwent a test at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday, where he was "diagnosed with a urinary tract infection resulting from a benign prostate enlargement," the prime minister's office said in a statement. "As a result, the prime minister will undergo prostate removal surgery tomorrow," it said.

In March, Netanyahu underwent a hernia surgery, while in July last year, doctors implanted a pacemaker after a medical scare.

The procedure on Sunday comes hours after the Israeli military announced it had raided one of the last functioning hospitals in northern Gaza and detained its director.

Usually, full removal is done when cancer is detected. For BPH, they usually just do TURP or HOLEP surgery.

Maybe his inability to pee is why he was so grumpy.

On the bright side, no more ejaculation. So, he won't be able to produce any more progeny.

He better be careful. I hear hospitals in that region attract bombs.

Medical care in Israel is world-class. (Israel news photo: Flash 90)

Evaluations consistently place Israel's healthcare system in the top ten in the world.

Israel ranks 10th on the list of best healthcare systems in the world, with an overall score of 61.73. Israel scored particularly highly in the Government Readiness category, with a score of 90.25. The quality and level of provision of Israel’s healthcare is reflected in the country’s ranking of most hospital beds per 1,000 people, coming fourth in the world.

Meanwhile, the US ranks as the worst performer among ten developed nations in critical areas of health care, including preventing deaths, access (mainly because of high cost) and guaranteeing quality treatment for everyone, regardless of gender, income or geographic location.

Somehow the hardworking American taxpayer in the world's largest GDP economy can't get universal healthcare for all its citizens.
