Related: About this forumI designed and created my sign for No Kings today...
I am an artist/illustrator so I put a lot of time and thought into my art. The sign is double-sided, 3-D and is for Sat.'s protest and looks like this...
It is 2-sided (all my signs are...more bang for the buck) and on the one side is my standard "tRump's face behind prison bars", recycled from 2017..an oldie but a goodie. I have made earrings with this image that I designed in 2016 (and hand made bumper stickers) with that image and I have received tons of compliments over the years
Side 1. tRumps head is crowned, of course, and it is pasted onto tRump's head, which wears a Hitler hair-do, mustache, big, red clown nose, and a 3' long red tie with the purposeful "tape" shown on the back side (he DID get photographed with tale on his tie instead of a tie-clip)
I have saved and recycled some old signs and have quite a portfolio.
Side 2. I made a 3-D tombstone with "Donald Trump 1946- 2026" on it with a small Satan Pentagram at the top. It's underneath blue skies and clouds and a huge rainbow with the word HOPE written above the rainbow and tombstone.
*** The problem is is that I am a serious protester (over 36 between 2016-2020, 2024-current) and I want to hear the speakers and need to be in the very front so that I can near them and "woo-hoo" them. I go alone so that I can weave through the crowds and be in the front and I walk FAST. My signs are very popular but I do not like to stop and let someone take a photo...it slows me down. During the Oct No Kings over 80,000 people marched in San Diego so it's been getting more and more difficult to maneuver through such huge crowds without my signs getting noticed (one is even at a local Women's Museum, they asked if I'd donate it. I did but ended up making a 2nd one (they are complete with the Mommie Dearest 3-D coat hanger theme).
I don't know how to successfully post photos of my signs even though very kind DUers have guided me through the process. I am a 100% tech moron and doing anything like that is beyond my skills.

(81,277 posts)Slow down when at the protest.
Let people see your sign and take it all in and enjoy it.
Let them take pictures so your posters get more attention.
You do good work and people need to see your signs and let them sink in.
And take pictures so others can see them too. Send them far and wide.
The posters are very effective communication tools and you are downplaying them too much
by not slowing down, not letting people talk to you, not letting people take pictures.
You can still get to the front of the crowd to hear the speakers.

(4,468 posts)I think I'm going alone this year, though I expect to see a pretty large turnout in this super conservative district. Last year I injured my shoulder from holding protests signs in the wind. I'm going to try to rig the sign so the handle sits in a fanny pack on my hip--or else I'll sit in a chair and hold the sign in front of me. I went 6 months pain and without full use of my shoulder. I have to figure out something better than last year.
I think for my art--which sucks-- I'll just copy some images from the web and ModPodge them onto the poster board. I am partial to a sign that says, "Don't talk about "illegals" if you voted for a felon". And "Fear Dictatorship, not diversity!" But I also want to put something in there to protest the war. I'll take any ideas offered!

(55,171 posts)make it into a protest sign in 2018. It looks just like the original from the 60s. It's in my "protest sign" portfolio.

(55,171 posts)The wind is awful and makes it very difficult to navigate. Since my signs are very large and heavy I get a real work-out. Afterwards I'm pooped out for 24 hours. My signs have a 3/4 inch dowel and it helps a lot. Since it's round and smooth so I can turn it around in a different direction momentarily when the wind hits it and it turns into a sail like on a boat.

(358 posts)side 1: Radicalized by common decency (which I found here on DU)
side 2: Fuck Trump
obviously not common decency!

(14,443 posts)I wish DU used an easier method. I have no problems on other sites. But then again, we would probably be inundated with all sorts of pictures
like going to somebodys house for an evening and having to sit through slides of their vacation to Iowa to see all their grandkids.

(12,977 posts)I would gladly post it for you.... and give you a link that you can post anywhere you choose just by copying and pasting the link into a DU post.

(55,171 posts)About 7 years ago a fellow DUer did that for me with my sign and earrings. Thanks!!!!!!
I'll take pictures with me tablet (that's about how far my tech skills go). Then I'll send them to you, is that OK?

(4,468 posts)For the sake of visibility and clarity of concept I went with: "NO KINGS -- NO PEDOPHILES"On four separate lines
I may make it double-sided with "STOP THE-- EPSTEIN WAR!" on the back.

Here's the link that you can plop into any DU post, and it will render into the image

Notes to myself: I tried copying an image in the gmail attachments and pasting into the "Drop Images Here" box in Imgur, but it said "URL did not upload" or something like that.
So I ended up using Windows Snip Tool (WindowKey Shift S) on each image and then copy and pasted onto the "Drop Images Here" button in Imgur.
As for the first one which is sideways -- I couldn't find any rotate option in the Windows Snip Tool, but in Imgur I found an Edit item on the menu and one of the options was Rotate Right. But after rotation, the right side was somewhat clipped. After a while I discovered that I could "grab" the right-end boundary of the picture and move it to the right, which expanded what is shown.
The visible URLs are made visible by sticking a [/b] in each one. The resulting visible URL works fine for copying and pasting into a DU post to render an image; the "spike" doesn't affect that at all.
Edited to add --
I just bolded the "Notes to myself" above. It was just to myself in case anyone asked how I did it. Or to myself in the case of the first image which I didn't know how to rotate until I figured it out, and then I didn't do a very good job because it has a lot of white space below with the funny green arrow in the lower right. And it was to inform myself that I didn't find any way to do it more directly, without using the Windows snipping tool.
I knew the "notes to myself" would not be meaningful to most people unless they had experience with Imgur. And only somewhat understandable to people using other posting services. Some people use other posting services, like imgBB, postImg, and many others. Some people use tools other than the Windows Snipping Tool.
It definitely was not meant as a recipe for others to follow.

(55,171 posts)understand one sentence of what you wrote on how you did it it. You sound like a computer wiz. I'm not even familiar with 50% of the computer vocab you use.
All the artwork, lettering, etc on my signs and bumper stickers are done by hand using a pencil, ruler, x-acto knife, spray adhesive and so on. I'm "old school". It takes a while but at least I am experienced at doing it. If I used a computer to try to do the same thing is would be a waste of time and a complete disaster.
When the local news interviewed me at the protest they didn't show my signs at all. Oh well, at least I didn't sound like an idiot on TV.

(12,977 posts)No, creating the DU postable pics wasn't a pain at all. The only one that was more work than the basic was the first one that I decided to rotate and didn't know how right away.
You can post any of these simply by right-clicking on a picture. Up should pop up a little menu with choices, including "Copy Image" and "Copy Image Link"
Click on "[n]Copy Image Link" (NOT on "Copy Image" )
That will put the link in your system's clipboard for later pasting.
Then in any DU post that you are creating or editing, put the mouse in the spot you want to put the picture, and do Control V (or right click and choose "Paste" ).
The above is how I do it on a regular Windows 10 desktop computer. I've never done a tablet and I've never tried to do any of this on my phone.
The same right-click copy image link trick works on any picture you see on DU no matter how it was posted (not just Imgur posts).
Alternatively, you can also use the links below each picture - just copy and paste them (one at a time) and the pictures will be displayed.
The "Notes to myself" part in my post above was just to myself in case anyone asked how I did it.
I will bold-face the "Notes to myself" part and add an explanation that it's not at all a "how to" recipe for doing it.
Anyway, I knew the "notes to myself" would not be meaningful to most people unless they had experience with Imgur. And only somewhat understandable to people using other posting services. Some people use other posting services, like imgBB, postImg, and many others. Some people use tools other than the Windows Snipping Tool.
