The office of the late Senator Lindsey Graham says that the preliminary finding regarding his cause of death is aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
An aortic dissection causes massive internal bleeding, prevents blood from reaching vital organs, and is often fatal without immediate treatment.
Grahams office also says that the death certificate remains pending while toxicology and microscopic testing are completed.
