8.2 earthquake in Mindinao. the Philippines

It happened at around 8:38 local time, or about 40 minutes ago. Tsunami alerts have been issued for the entire Japanese Pacific coast up through Ibaraki Prefecture in SE Honshu

I experienced a few strong aftershocks in the aftermath on the 2011 Japan megaquake, and I was pretty rattled. This western Pacific Rim has seen a lot of major seismic activity recently

San Francisco earthquake, which leveled a large part of that city. I hope that the local building codes are adequate, and observed. Will the US provide any assistance?

(I was here for Loma Prieta, the "Big Enough One&quot .

The depth may keep the tsunamis from becoming a big problem plus the energy waves may not be focused enough in one direction.

ABC: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said tsunami waves up to 3 meters (10 feet) were possible on some coasts of the Philippines. Waves up to 1 meter (3 feet) were possible on some coasts of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Smaller tsunami waves were possible in Taiwan, Japan, Guam, Papua New Guinea and several island nations and territories in the western Pacific.

Living in Hollywood area. It hit at like 5am. I woke up to find a safe place and was thrown directly back in bed. Huge aftershocks all day and night.

I can’t imagine a 7.8!

Cousin-in-law is a teacher, and he said they were fortunately all outside at the time for a flag ceremony, so all the kids were safe.
