Fucking disgraceful hateful asshole talking shit on the day we honor those who went forward to liberate Europe. And it is not only June 6 1944 that we hold in our thoughts also those people who fought and died in Asia and Africa.
And this fucking pimple runs his gums on the anniversary of the invasion of Europe and makes it all about himself and his shit racist beliefs.
I told a woman once maybe two years ago who mentioned her father she said he fought in Burma. I said wow your dad was a stud.
I explained my thinking in that those soldiers walked from India into Burma carrying everything on their backs and mules.
And they pulled it off Merrill’s Marauders they opened it up. And they only had each other to depend upon not like today where you can get resupply by a Blackhawk or to get your wounded out.
And thinking of our British allies in the battle of Imphal to counter japans invasion of India historians refer to this battle as the Stalingrad of the east.
Yet sitting here I knew some World War Two veterans one fellow comes to mind.
He was one of my first road drivers union stewards early nineteen nineties who survived the Hell of Peleliu. And he finally received help for his PTSD. Because his son a Vietnam combat Marine who also had PTSD convinced his father to seek help.
I could not imagine being a grunt on that morning climbing into those landing craft off of Normandy. I cannot imagine how those men must have felt as they headed towards the beach. Puking dry heaving full of adrenaline terror fear thinking this is probably my last moments among the living holding your rifle getting drenched from sea spray.
You hit the beach and those ramps drop German MG 42 rounds flying you gotta move and move fast to find cover. And the fear confusion the instinct to self preserve they had no choice. In receiving the designation we later gave them the greatest generation.
Or those men in the Glider units or the Airborne in those C-47. German Flak coming through the thin floors no place to seek cover only way to survive is walk out the door into the night sky.
They were disrupted on that drop yet they linked up some units were reconstituted and they drove on with their mission.
Hegseth is scum and one day he as the other MAGA shits in this administration will face justice for their crimes in a court.

12. I have been to the beaches of Normandy, with the white-capped ocean waves as eternal as.....

the rows upon rows of white marble Crosses and Stars of David marking sacrifice upon sacrifice, emphasis on the "sacri."

The marble memorial cupola is impressive, beautiful, with displays of the invasion maps, informing and humbling us all but especially Americans who tend to forget or never learned about the forces from the UK, Canada, Australia, and other Allies landing on different stretches of the beach for one cause, one purpose.

And now their actual or spiritual descendants are given the intended epithet of "ANTIFA" by Republicans, the true "suckers": Ruled by the true "loser," the draft-dodging grandson of a draft-dodger and the sire to two, probably three more.

My husband and I also went to the first French villages liberated. The people I met---a farmer who proudly showed us his prized WWII American pilot's cap; shopkeepers who gratefully displayed American flags---were kind beyond words.

And finally the church of little Sainte-Mere Eglise. The church from whose steeple yet hangs the parachute and its caught US airman, a statue that, unlike the headstones, makes us look upwards to the heavens, to take note of this one man among so many, the forever brave.

It is in remembrance that I am a proud American.
