It was the same thing my mom died from. She had fallen out of her wheel chair at the nursing home. They didnt know when she fell or how long she been laying face first on the floor. It was a matter of a week and she died.
Although she was 88 years old and her immune system was compromised most likely before she fell. It is hard to know what happened.
I cant imagine what Kyle Buschs family is going through. He was still a young person and supposedly healthy.
It goes to show, we must take care of ourselves as best we can? Be careful! Get your shots & stay as healthy as you can!

(298,171 posts)Kyle Buschs death should be used as an example for middle aged folks who believe that because they excel in one area makes them experts in medicine.
As I posted on another thread, he died of stupidity

The PBS report was telling.
41 year old men ignore serious symptoms.
He did not need a shot- he needed a thorough medical examination.
One more person who listens to stupid ads telling us to tell our doctors what we need rather than heading to the doctor for expert advice.
Sad but you cant fix stupid.

Typically the immune system releases chemicals to fight off pathogens like bacteria, viruses or fungi, but with sepsis the response goes into overdrive. The results can cause widespread inflammation, form microscopic blood clots and make blood vessels leak.
Busch was thought to have had a sinus cold while racing at Watkins Glen on May 10 and radioed in to his team saying that he needed a "shot" from a doctor after the race. However, he bounced back to win the Trucks Series race at Dover last weekend, and then he finished 17th in the All-Star race on Sunday.
He did not bounce back - his condition worsened.
Arrogance and the belief in invincibility is what killed him.

Your mum was an elderly person who fell.

(15,882 posts)Family said he felt a bit sick for about a week before his death and then got pneumonia.
It took one week..
He worked out up to the day before he died...
When I was a kid he was my hero...

(298,171 posts)Dr. Jesse Morse believes that Busch should've been hospitalized following that race earlier in May.
"This was a totally preventable situation. Hindsight is 2020, but ideally when he was calling for help and a 'shot' from his doctor two weeks ago. The proper protocol wouldve been to have him admitted to the hospital and get IV antibiotics with proper monitoring. Based on what we have heard, this was not the case, and his medical team allowed him to maintain his strenuous activities despite this ongoing infection that eventually evolved into pneumonia. The fact that he won a race less then a week before he passed away, meaning that he was still actively dealing with this infection, is nothing short of extraordinary. It shows you how good of shape he was in and also the power of the mind," he argued.
Doctor goes into detail on what happened on Busch
It's a truly tragic situation.

(11,388 posts)And he probably thought it was just what's going around, or allergy related, and no big deal.. We've been in peak allergy/sinus season for several weeks here in NC and it's easy to shrug it off because 99% of the state is stuffed up and struggling to breathe. I was sick with a sinus infection/cold most of the month, too.
It's really tragic.
