(38,024 posts)I came up with during the whole Low IQ discussion a few days ago.
Let me preface this by saying that I have always been very skeptical and critical of IQ testing in general. Particularly during the era when Trump would have been taking them as class, culturally, and ethnically biased in the extreme. But, lets face it. Trump was exactly in the center of where those biases would cater to at the time. Still even with that advantage, he fails.
To do well on any test the first and largest hurdle is being able to fricking take a test. Given his tiny attention span and famous illiteracy its doubtful that he could complete even the simplest of tests. Even if all that was required was to randomly fill in more than a few ovals with a number two pencil.
Its also rumored that along with daddy buying his way out of the draft, he bought the mental midgets testing. If the results were that low he hired the wrong surrogates.

(38,024 posts)With any early disability in a competitive system (which is life) there is coping. Trump has developed an array of maladaptive coping mechanisms to get by.
How he made it to nearly eighty without someone cleaning his clock shows an incredible amount of sheltering and enabling from those around him.

(10,756 posts)One of his former teachers at Penn said that after his initial interview and assessment for admission, it was determined that he was "un-teachable," and closed minded to anyone telling him anything. Daddy coughed up a wad of money and they took him anyway. I read this somewhere years ago, I'm pretty sure it was here, that someone knew a prof from Penn who told him this, but would not go public.
But there's an additional meanness going on there, and a total lack of empathy that's a scary something else. The picture of him standing there looking away from the man who had collapsed in his office was chilling. It was so not human I can't get past it.

(3,471 posts)As much as I hate the SOB, 73 is very low for a functioning person. I used to teach SPED, and some of my kiddos were in that range. It would be obvious.

Donald, just think you are on the set of your hugely successful show, "The Apprentice.". We are going to start wide and generic for your words. so, someone on the set, generically, would be a person. Then we narrow it. Next is woman. Then, most importantly is you, a man. Once again, think of your set. Who is on the set? A person, a woman and a man. That man is you. What should be focused on you at all times? A camera. And where does the camera footage lead? No, not into film!into a TV! When you tell the people what words you are tested for, it will all involve your show because you are that great!

(56,271 posts)I think we're quibbling over whether it's 85 or 73 or whatever. He very clearly has substantial mental deficiencies.
He's learned next to nothing since the age of 6. He navigates situations through anger and manipulation and leaves the thinking to others because he knows he's incapable of doing anything beyond liking or disliking the results.
There's evidence of this every day.

(60,092 posts)The only strategy he has ever shown is to never admit anything he does is less than wonderful, like a spoiled child whose parents don't care enough about him to correct him.
His motivations for his actions are mostly primitive - "Get girls and money. Tell people I'm powerful."
None of that points to a person capable of deep thought.
So I believe it.

The billionaires and the dictators and the John Roberts politicos . They all know his disability and use it to their advantage. Fortunately, 80 percent of We The People arent fooled or looking to manipulate. We are only interested in trying to get back our democracy, and with unity, i believe we will. Inch by Inch.

(38,024 posts)Thats the key to Trump. In order to manipulate him you must be in the small group of people he fawns to and that group was set decades ago. Mainly money and perceived power.

(42,498 posts)They calculate the number by dividing the person's raw test score with the person's age. So the younger the test taker is, the higher the resulting number. If Chump took an IQ test as a teenager, say 18, the raw score is divided by 18. But if he takes the test again as an 80-year-old-man, the score is divided by 80 so it brings the final number way down.
Does he know 5 times more correct answers now than he did as a teenager? It's highly doubtful. So the older he gets, the lower his IQ score. This is why IQ results don't really mean much for older adults. I'm an older adult myself (I'm 75) and I'm sure of this. In my grade school days I tested at somewhere around 135, but my age was about 10 or 11 then. If I took the same test now and got all the same answers correctly (the same raw score) I would be below 100 now due to my age.
Bear in mind that standardized IQ tests do not ask trivia or general knowledge questions, the tests are designed to gauge the person's reasoning ability. Slow or deficient readers are penalized if they fail to quickly discern the word problems or visual puzzles. We all know that Chump fits the description perfectly. (It doesn't mean he's retarded, but he is a slow reader.)

Thats why criminals get caught, even the most cunning. They are convinced that their animal intelligence is genius.
His dark triad personality disorder convinces him, that he is more intelligent that anyone else.
Why do you think he would babble about Hannibal Lecter? He IS Hannibal Lecter.
Mary Trump is right. She has said, and I paraphrase, If Donald had not been born rich, he would be dead or in jail and they would be digging up his basement looking for bodies.

(4,799 posts)... His grandfather was a pimp, his father was a racist slumlord and a vicious snake who got his jollies by pitting his sons against each other. Little Donnie learned from an early age that bullying and lying were not only fun, but usually got him what he wanted, and it was very likely the only way to get Daddy's approval because Daddy was a lying bully, too.
Bullies never learn to interact with others in a responsible, adult fashion because they don't have to. Little Donnie took it to such extremes that his parents had to send him to military school because he was totally uncontrollable.
An Intelligence Quotient is not wholly a measure of innate ability, but also of one's ability and desire to learn. A seething furnace of malice like Donald Trump has no desire or ability to learn anything apart from new ways to lie, cheat, and steal. It worked... for a while. But now he's reached the limits of what he can get away with; too many people have figured out what a weasel he is. His past misdeeds have caught up with him, and now he's cornered. And a cornered weasel is a very dangerous creature. A cornered weasel with access to the nuclear codes is infinitely more dangerous than we can even begin to imagine.
The moral of the story: Do NOT subscribe to the Pollyannic belief that "He would never", because he most certainly would, with no hesitation and even less regret. Trump is a textbook psychopath who has stated publicly that only his own morals can stop him. The problem being, he has no morals, and therefore, no restraints of any kind to inhibit his darkest urges. He likes to hurt people; he likes to impose his will on people, and he has zero compunction about doing either. Do the math.

85-90?
That would put him in the bottom third of the first sigma below the average.
The problem is that with his other personality disorders, he's dangerous because he thinks he's much smarter than he is & his sheltered existence allowed that delusion to become a sort of reality.

(102 posts)As I have posted before on here, Trump does NOT have low intelligence. His problem is ignorance and a lack of desire to learn anything. He is stupid but thinks he is the smartest person around.
None of his traits are indicative of low IQ. A person with and IQ if 73 is mildly intellectually disabled. That person would have some difficulty learning in school with reading and math. They might be able to have a job but would need constant supervision. They would need a structured life and wouldn't deal well with changes. They may be able to make small money change.
I wish people on this site would stop with the low IQ. I worked with children and adults with intellectual disabilities NONE acted as trymp does. Most people with low IQ are friendly, kind, and caring. You do them all a disservice comparing Trump to them.
I would suggest you seek out a program in the schools or a community based sheltered workshop to visit and meet people with intellectual disabilities instead of demeaning them by making Trump comparison.
It makes me physically ill to see people on this site doing this to a population of people who don't deserve it. Would you do this to any other minority group? I don't think so. Intellectually disabled people are a minority group and deserve the same respect you give any other group.

(747 posts)My now deceased dad had worked in the building trades industry in NYC on high rise building projects for 30 plus years so he knew Trump then. He would never quote him because Trump was never a straight payer as his reputation was known for always looking to make some sort of a deal.
My dad, a WWII and Korean War Navy veteran, was so appalled that his fellow Americans would vote for this guy.

(131,305 posts)and not any kind of disability. An IQ of 78 is classified as borderline or well below average, depending on which scale is used - in other words, on the edge of developmentally disabled; I don't think he's that. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he's at least somewhat dyslexic, but that's not a cognitive disorder. His apparent intellectual shortcomings aren't caused by some congenital disability but by his constellation of personality disorders. He's a narcissist who thinks he's always right and that whatever he believes is true, and throughout his privileged life he's never been held to account. He always got his way because of his money and his bullying personality, so he was able to turn his beliefs into facts as far as his business was concerned. Since he always got his way and was able to force others to do what he wanted, he never had to learn much about anything that didn't affect his business. He remained comfortably ignorant about everything outside his world of real estate development, and being lazy on top of everything else, he never bothered to learn anything else. As a result, he presents as being as dumb as a bag of hair. His IQ, if it had ever been measured, is probably a lukewarm normal. He's functionally stupid because he's lazy and has been able to do what he wanted without having to know anything outside his little world of rich assholes.
