2. To some people, Respect is Fear.

Those are the stunted people who will never be happy, who will never love, who will never have the courage to do The Right Thing. They are always afraid. Even when everyone else fears them, even if they've successfully built up "empires", even if they can go anywhere they want or take anything they fancy, there will always be that doubt, that lingering fear that visits them when they're alone, in the dark, looking at their reflection in the mirror....
Respect is Fear. They are mortal, they will die, there are people who don't fear them. They aren't the Most Important Person in the World...there is someone out there who might be better than them. Who can beat them.
And that fear eats them until eventually, their cleverness or wits are subsumed - nothing but desperation to remain on top is left.
