MI-GOV: Benson snags endorsements from more Democratic state legislators in gubernatorial race

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced on Wednesday the endorsement of three more state legislators — Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit), Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) and Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren).

“Working people are struggling right now — from fighting to get by amidst skyrocketing costs to playing defense against federal attacks on our Constitutionally protected rights and freedoms,” Anthony, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, said in a press release from the Benson campaign. “I’ve worked with Jocelyn Benson for years, and I know that we could count on her to effectively safeguard our fundamental rights, uphold the democratic process, and fight for our shared priorities.”

Benson already had the endorsements of 21 other state representatives and eight other state senators, including the Democratic leaders in both chambers of the Michigan Legislature, according to her website.

“Throughout her career, Jocelyn has shown she is a fighter for Michigan and she will work with anyone to get things done and stand up to anyone who gets in the way,” Xiong said. “As costs are on the rise and rights and freedoms are under attack, Jocelyn Benson is the only candidate Michiganders can trust to lead our state.”
