What I am seeing is that Trump started an illegal war to fund Putin's illegal war.

(7,760 posts)has been for decades. Russia plays the long game. They never planned to bomb or go to war with the US, they knew they could take us down from the inside... because OUR oligarchs are just like THEIR oligarchs! One thing Putin knows is how to "handle" rich white men.
And I do hope we don't get into semantics... that crap is driving me crazy. He can't be a traitor because he doesn't fit the very narrow single definition of treason. And yet, anyone with a lick of sense sees what he's doing as treason. We have to either come up with new words for his crimes, or redefine the existing ones. Because he ain't getting out of this alive...

(25,766 posts)to fight? It happened briefly in WWI on Christmas Eve. Both sides saw no point in fighting each other on the holiday that was supposed to celebrate peace on earth. They laid down their arms and met each other in no man's land between the lines.
Why should soldiers fight and die on behalf of oligarchs and dictators who sell war in the name of patriotism when it is only for the personal gain of the leaders who start the war?

(11,008 posts)However, that requires a level of sacrifice and effort that doesn't seem palatable for this country these days.
After all, that has been my siren for a while now. Stop doing their bidding. But...

(11,008 posts)Everyone knows a few neighbors that had MAGA crap all over their houses. Once they realize that they are not among the anointed, they will be hiding that shit faster than a four year old with that cookie you told them to not have.
Don't let them. Remember them. Mark them. Let them know that we are now aware of their... shortcomings... and will be keeping an eye on them from now on. Just to make sure they don't do something completely stupid and dangerous like eating lead paint, or walking out into traffic, or like they did in that last election.

(4,009 posts)... convoluted motives in play in this monstrous clusterfuck, and I agree, your observation is definitely one of them. Putin is playing 3-D chess, while Trump is playing tiddly-winks.

(9,052 posts)It also may be strategic if there was a quid-pro-quo that wasn't disclosed. I'm not claiming there was, but it's very unlike Trump to hand Russia something of great value without getting something in return.
