US consumers will pay tariffs twice under Trump's new tariff plan.

The courts have told Trump admin to pay the illegal tariffs back and it will be to the corporations that paid the tariffs

European and Canadian companies are receiving refund checks (with interest)… while U.S. consumers who ate the price hikes get nothing—and may now face a second inflation wave.

⚖️ The Federal Circuit rejected Trump’s request to pause tariff-refund proceedings, sending the case back to the Court of International Trade
💰 Up to $175B in potential refunds: corporate losses reversed, consumer losses permanent
🧾 How tariffs “paid at the border” became inflation at the checkout
🇪🇺🇨🇦 Why foreign firms can be refunded with interest—and why U.S. households can’t be repaid for higher prices
📈 The asymmetric unwind: corporations recover, consumers absorb the damage
🏛️ The Treasury problem: refund obligations create pressure for new revenue
🔁 The loop risk: new tariffs to fund old refunds → higher prices → more lawsuits → more refunds

This isn’t just a legal loss for Trump—it’s a case study in how modern systems distribute pain: diffuse costs stick to the public, concentrated benefits flow back to institutions.

companies that paid the tariffs and increased the prices to cover the tariffs, will have no such loyalty to do so. And Trump is now putting tariffs on again, to pay the illegal tariffs back and when that is struck down by the courts as illegal, the same will happen again. It is in a vicious cycle and the people getting screwed, once again, is the consumer, who will not get reimbursed.
