Robert Duvall was a good guy
Here's an article from one of the online newspapers in Northern Virginia with notes about Duvall.

The Fauquier County in the article is about 30-40 minutes out of DC. Previously it was home to small farmers and some wealthy landowners. The county has become a mixture of a bedroom community for the federal agencies and contractors surrounding DC while still retaining most of its small-town character.
I live in Prince William County, adjacent to Fauquier, closer to DC. I encountered him a couple of times in one of our favorite mom-and-pop cafes in The Plains and in the local old-fashioned hardware store where we both were looking for some picture hanging hardware.
My two favorite quotes.
"I don't know the answer to nothing, not a blessed thing. I don't know why I wandered out to this part of Texas drunk and you took me in and pitied me and helped me to straighten out, marry me. Why? Why did that happen? Is there a reason that happened? And Sonny's Daddy died in a war. My daughter killed in an automobile accident. Why? You see I don't trust happiness. I never did. I never will."
-- Mac Sledge, Robert Duvall's character in the movie Tender Mercies for which he won the Oscar
"We're all travelers in this world - from sweet grass to the packin' house - birth till death - we travel between the eternities. " -- Prentice Ritter, Robert Duval's character in the TV series "Broken Trail"
