That's what the pollsters should be asking. That's what the media should be asking. Not the generic, overly simplified "do you support voter ID" that they've been asking. Because the SAVE act gives The Department of Homeland Security control over every State's voter data. DHS will decide what ID counts and what doesn't. DHS will have the authority to purge any voter for whatever discrepancy they wish. Did you recently move but not update your driver's license to reflect your new address? Purged. Are you a woman who took her husband's name when you married? Your ID doesn't match now. Purged. DHS will be able to find any little reason they wish to purge you. Our voting rights are sacred. Our States, not the federal government, are responsible for overseeing our elections. So ask people if they are ok with this enormous overreach by a con artist who attempted to overturn an election. A con artist who is stil claiming election fraud that doesn't exist. Ask it this way and I'm certain the poll results will be drastically different.

(51,928 posts)Before this latest wave of Republican control, the States had a promising system in place where they were sharing voter information, just to make sure that no one was voting more than once per election. In other words, those who had access to more than one property across States could only claim one primary residence and not ask for absentee ballots from another state to vote in that one too.
From the little information that trickled out they did find people abusing the system, and they were primarily if not all of them, Republican.
So, what happened? They put an end to the voter sharing program between States.
Since that didn't achieve what they wanted it to achieve, they want to give the monitoring to a federal government whose Administration is just steps away from going to jail for their perverse past, as well as the cover-ups that they are doing right in front of our faces.
If there is a fight for the buenos among us to protect what's left of this country's reputation, it begins here. The voting system needs to be protected, so say it loud and say it proud: No to handing over the voter rolls to this government.

(44,149 posts)It is to determine the will of the people, and know that your policies and actions are backed by the people weve gotten off that track partially because of the electoral college thing but mostly because of Trump. People dont cheat elections they give honest information. now we have Republicans claiming they have a mandate to rip the constitution to shreds. When in fact, they can only lose three or four votes and still have the majority in the House, thats a slim margin not a mandate.
