NJ-GOV: Kelly, Giffords will stump for Sherrill on Saturday
U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona), a retired astronaut who grew up in West Orange, and his wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Arizona), will campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill in Essex County on Saturday.
Giffords is a nationally known gun safety advocate who survived a 2011 assassination attempt. She represented the Tucson area in Congress from 2007 until 2012 and later founded Giffords, a gun violence prevention group. Kelly was a U.S. Navy combat aviator and Space Shuttle commander who flew four missions before entering politics.
Kelly will headline a canvass launch on Saturday morning in Montclair with Sherrill in an event sponsored by NJ Victory 2025, the Democratic State Committee’s coordinated campaign. Giffords will join her husband in Livingston at noon.
Kelly and Giffords helped Sherrill flip New Jersey’s 11th congressional district House seat in 2018 when they came to Woodland Park to boost the campaign.
