Former NFL QB Mark Sanchez charged after surveillance video shows alleged fight in downtown Indy alley

Sanchez is very lucky he's only being charged with 3 misdemeanors instead of a felony. He is clearly guilty of instigating the fight that led to his own stabbing. Police said the surveillance video matched the other guy's story, while Sanchez either lied about not remembering what happened, or was so drunk that he truly didn't remember. A 38 year old former professional football player beating up a 69 year old man? Sanchez is scum.

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was charged early Sunday morning by Marion County prosecutors for his alleged role in a stabbing that left him seriously injured early Saturday in downtown Indianapolis.

Sanchez faces misdemeanor criminal charges of Battery Resulting in Injury, Public Intoxication, and Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle for his alleged role in the altercation.
...
According to the probable cause affidavit, Sanchez allegedly opened the driver’s door of the truck and climbed inside despite being told to leave. The man told detectives Sanchez appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol and claimed to have spoken to the hotel manager, who said the truck was not supposed to be there. When the worker tried to call his supervisor, Sanchez allegedly blocked him.

Video shows the men circling the truck before a struggle broke out near a large dumpster. Detectives say Sanchez threw the victim toward the dumpster, and the two fought between the truck and the wall. The 69-year-old told police he used pepper spray to defend himself, but when Sanchez continued advancing, he thought “this guy is trying to kill me” and pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez several times in self-defense. According to the court documents, video gathered from the nearby Marriott hotel “closely matches” the victim’s account.

2. Sounds like a drunk asshole FAFO'd. Thank goodness the delivery driver only had minor injuries.

That could have ended much worse all around.

As the cops said "this never should have happened."

A 69 yr old man delivering food...to survive in America. A wealthy former Football Quarterback should be treated far more harshly for this.

He needs to go check himself for CTE

6. I agree with everything, but it appears the man was not delivering food

But rather, according to this and other articles I've seen, he was working between the Westin Hotel and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, collecting used cooking oil as part of his job.

Fox sports better fire him from his broadcasting job after this.

they don't fire their assholes like other networks do. If this was any other network he'd be gone already. Stupid and gutless. Blackout drunk and attacks a 69 year old delivery driver. How admirable.

10. He's employed by Fox Sports, not Fox News

They are separate entities just like Fox Entertainment is. Examples of Fox Sports announcers being fired are Skip Bayless, Craig James & Thom Brennaman.

Skip Bayless: left Fox Sports in 2024 after he was accused in a lawsuit of offering a make-up artist $1.5 million for sex, an allegation he denied.

Craig James: was fired in 2013 for anti-gay comments he made while running for Senate in Texas.

Thom Brennaman: was removed from Fox Sports NFL broadcasting team in 2020 after he used an anti-gay slur on air

I'm not saying he will definitely be fired, but he may be (and should be). My guess is he at least gets suspended for the rest of this season.

These networks have a very clearly defined pecking order, and Sanchez was pretty low in the order. He was supposed to do color for Colts versus Raiders, which was not a game of national interest, so I'd say he was about the 5th or 6th tier down.

The people below him take a step up. Simple as that.

There is nothing in it for Fox to keep him around.

Those jobs are coveted. Why would Fox want to keep anybody around who didn't value that opportunity any more than this?

With the newer technology, I guess he can add his insightful color commentary from his prison cell.

And sign him up for ICE. Sanchez sounds like a Fox and Kegsbreath kind of man. Masculinity at its finest.
Did he ask, “Do you know who I am”?

12. In this case it seems more like a former NFL player failed to beat up an old man

Granted drunk people aren't known for their great reflexes or other things useful in a fight, but they are often good at picking fights. Fortunately only the drunken aggressor seems to have been significantly hurt. Hopefully Sanchez gets his issues under control.
