Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the military to review and revise the ways it investigates complaints of hazing and harassment, according to policy memos obtained by ABC News.
The memos, which came after Hegseth ordered top military generals and admirals to come to Virginia to hear a speech about the importance of the "warrior ethos," call for a 30-day review of the definition of hazing, bullying and harassment within the military. Hegseth claims in the memos that the current policy preventing those behaviors is "overly broad" and puts combat readiness in jeopard
Among the changes called for is that "non-credible complaints" must be closed no later than seven business days after receipt. Command-directed investigations must be closed within 30 days, according to Hegseth.
"By embracing these changes, the Department will not only honor its commitment to fairness and integrity but also reinforce the core principles of the warrior ethos -- courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to the mission," he added.

Veterans and military groups are furious after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth summoned hundreds of top military officials to a speech subjecting them to a familiar barrage of right-wing grievances about the armed forces, including new guidance that could effectively exclude women from combat roles.
Hegseth raged against woke garbage and stupid rules of engagement that he claims are unjustly restraining service members. He also smeared transgender service members as dudes in dresses and announced plans to roll back troops abilities to report unequal treatment based on race, gender, sexuality or religion, making it easier for personnel to bully and haze service members without consequence.
Women serving in combat roles must meet the highest male standard, and if not, its time for a new position or a new profession, Hegseth said.
If women can make it, excellent. If not, it is what it is, he said. If that means no women qualify for some combat jobs, so be it.

At his presentation Tuesday at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested to hundreds of gathered generals and admirals that the military could restore a warrior ethos by turning back the clock.
What were the military standards in 1990? And if they have changed, tell me, why was it a necessary change based on the evolving landscape of combat, or was the change due to a softening, weakening, or gender based pursuit of other priorities? Hegseth said. 1990 seems to be as good a place to start as any.
In 1991, the annual convention of the Tailhook Association, a prestigious organization of naval and Marine Corps aviators, became a drunken three-day bacchanal, in which 83 women and 7 men were assaulted, according to a Department of Defense investigation.
It erupted into a scandal after Lt. Paula Coughlin, a 30-year-old helicopter pilot and admirals aide, came forward with a harrowing account of being put through what was known as a gantlet on the third floor of the Las Vegas Hilton, where she said one man grabbed her breast, another tried to rip off her panties and she escaped what she feared was going to be a gang rape after biting one of her attackers.
Ultimately, the careers of more than a dozen admirals and hundreds of aviators were damaged by the scandal.
Pete Hegseth was about 10 years old in 1990, said Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot who is the Democratic nominee for New Jersey governor. I was entering the Naval Academy. So he has no idea what was going on. I had a first-hand look at it.

...Pete Hegseth is no stranger to credible allegations of sexual assault:
The Monterey Police Department released the 24-page report (Pete Hegseths alleged sexual assault of a woman in 2017) to news organization Mediaite after initially refusing to do so, explaining that Hegseths request for a copy in 2021 waived its obligation to keep it under wraps.
The alleged assault took place during a Republican women's conference during which Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Defense, was a keynote speaker. In his statement to police, Hegseth said he did have sex with the accuser and corroborated details from her account, but characterized the encounter as consensual.
Hegseths alleged victim said she had a drink at a sports bar attached to the hotel before things got fuzzy, telling a nurse who administered her sexual assault test that she suspected something was slipped into her drink.
She said she didnt recall Hegseth leading her to his hotel room, but she remembered saying 'no' a lot, and recalled the ex-Fox News host taking her phone from her and blocking her path to the door with his body.
