When I needed a used car almost four years ago, I jumped at the chance to buy mine. I believe it was manufactured in Ohio.

I think the CR-V is the most popular SUV in the Western Pennsylvania region where I live.

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International (MBUSI) is a Mercedes-Benz automobile manufacturing plant near Vance, Alabama. It is located about 34 miles (55 km) west of Birmingham and about 19 miles (31 km) east of downtown Tuscaloosa. The factory was announced in 1993 and produced its first vehicle, an ML320, in February 1997. wiki

I mean, haven't Hondas (and Toyotas, Subarus, Mitsubishis...) been built here since at least the late '80s? I remember when Honda started Acura, which was basically "Honda of America", their upscale/luxury brand. That was in '87 or '88, IIRC.

Cars coming in from Japan are at 15%. But car parts and engines from Canada and Mexico that are outside of CUSMA (USMCA) are tariffed at 25% and 30% respectively. That doesn't advantage US car companies that depend on those parts to build cars.

The first Japanese automobile plant in the US was Honda's Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio, which began production in 1982. The first vehicle produced there was the Honda Accord. Since then - - -

Several foreign-owned automotive companies have manufacturing plants in the United States. These include BMW (Spartanburg, SC), Mercedes-Benz (Vance, AL and Ladson, SC), Volkswagen (Chattanooga, TN), Hyundai (Montgomery, AL), Kia (West Point, GA), and Toyota (various locations in Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, and Mississippi). There are also Japanese automakers like Honda (Marysville, OH) and Subaru (Lafayette, IN) with significant production in the US.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:

BMW: Their Spartanburg, South Carolina plant is a major production hub for their X series SUVs.

Mercedes-Benz: They have facilities in Vance, Alabama, where they produce various models like the GLE and GLS, and in Ladson, South Carolina, where they manufacture the Metris and Sprinter vans. "Bama Benz" is a slang term, particularly used in Alabama, referring to Mercedes-Benz vehicles that are produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, Alabama -- Vance is the sole location for producing certain Mercedes-Benz SUV models for global markets, including the GLE, GLS, GLE Coupe, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS. The plant also produces the EQE SUV, EQS SUV, and Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.

Volkswagen: Their Chattanooga, Tennessee plant produces the Passat, Atlas, and ID.4.

Hyundai: Their Montgomery, Alabama factory produces the Sonata, Santa Fe, and Elantra.

Kia: Their West Point, Georgia plant manufactures the Optima and Sorento.

Toyota: They have multiple plants across the country, including in Kentucky (Camry, Lexus ES350), Indiana (Sienna, Highlander), Texas (Tundra, Sequoia), and Mississippi (Corolla).

Honda: Their Marysville, Ohio plant is a major production site for the Accord, Acura TLX, Acura NSX, and Acura ILX.

Subaru: The Subaru Lafayette, Indiana, plant produces the Subaru Outback, Legacy, Ascent, and Impreza for the American market. (My Subaru Outback purchased in March 2025 was manufactured in Lafayette, IN.)

Volvo: Volvo has a manufacturing plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, where they produce the Volvo S60 and the fully electric EX90 SUV.

Volvo Trucks: Volvo Trucks North America produces its trucks at the New River Valley (NRV) assembly plant in Dublin, Virginia. This facility is the sole producer of Volvo trucks for the North American market. This plant was recently expanded to build electric over-the-road Volvo trucks.

Then, there’s heavy construction equipment.

Volvo: Produces crawler excavators and large wheel loaders in Shippensburg, PA.

Hitachi: Operates a customer experience headquarters in Georgia and has been actively introducing new products.

SANY: Manufactures excavators in Peachtree City, Georgia. SANY is a multinational heavy equipment manufacturer, originally founded in China. It is the third-largest heavy equipment manufacturer globally.

Kobelco: Has a manufacturing plant in Moore, South Carolina according to Wikipedia. Kobelco is a brand name used by Kobe Steel, a major Japanese steel manufacturer. It is also the unified brand for their construction machinery division.

46. New GDP data leads Trump to change his mind about blaming Biden for the economy
Wed Jul 30, 2025, 08:26 PM

Remember when Trump said Biden should get the blame if the economy struggled in the second quarter? As luck would have it, he's reversed course.

Remember three months ago, when Trump said the economy might be bad in the second quarter, and he urged the public to preemptively blame Biden?

He’s apparently changed his mind.

That said, while the top-line GDP data looks encouraging, the fine print matters. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2025-07-30T15:41:36.964Z

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/new-gdp-data-leads-trump-change-mind-blaming-biden-economy-rcna221934

At the time, the incumbent president feared that the economy would continue to struggle in the spring and early summer, so he wanted to lay the groundwork early to deflect responsibility. Exactly three months later, however, the Commerce Department reported that the economy grew in the second quarter, and wouldn’t you know it, Trump decided it didn’t have anything to do with Biden after all. CNBC reported:

The U.S. economy grew at a much stronger-than-expected pace in the second quarter, powered by a turnaround in the trade balance and renewed consumer strength, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. Gross domestic product, a sum of goods and services activity across the sprawling U.S. economy, jumped 3% for the April through June period, according to figures adjusted for seasonality and inflation.

While the president was predictably eager to tout the data, the details and larger context matter. As The New York Times reported, the figures from both quarters were skewed “by big swings in trade and inventories caused by President Trump’s ever-shifting tariff policies.”

The Times added, “Taken as a whole, the data from the first six months of the year tell a more consistent story of anemic, though positive, economic growth.”

A Reuters report came to a similar conclusion, noting that the data from the second quarter masked “underlying weakness” in the domestic economy, adding that the top-line figures “grossly overstated the economy’s health as declining imports accounted for the bulk of the improvement and domestic demand rose at its slowest pace” in two-and-a-half years.

With this in mind, I expect to hear Trump trying to explain why he deserves credit for the headline on the new report showing economic growth, but Biden deserves blame for the relevant details in the same data.

trump is truly an idiot
