(22,566 posts)The winners are simply stellar. They are diverse and moving. I loved those photos.
I could sing a song for each of the three.
I also applaud all who entered.
And congratulations to Eko the host, for his first and successful time running a contest. It is not an easy thing to do.

(22,566 posts)The memory of this particular camp is extreme. We stumbled upon it on a road in former East Germany and spent a gruesome afternoon there.
It is so important to me to keep in mind that this is very recent past . .

And my father ran across the nephew of her horrid judge, Roland Freisler, (he caught his last name and asked if they were related), and then successfully invited him to dinner to have a chance to talk to him.
It is tough for me to see what is happening in my beloved America.

(3,992 posts)Thank you all for your support, and congrats to Eko for running a great contest. My heartiest congratulations to bif and Hiawatha Pete.
And now a few words about my photo. I shot this in 2016 during a nine thousand mile round trip from Los Angeles to Homer, Alaska via the Alaska Highway. The photo was taken along Turnagain Arm, south of Anchorage, on the way to the Kenai Peninsula. It's called Turnagain Arm because, when Captain Cook was exploring there, the water kept getting more and more shallow, and he had to turn "again and again" to avoid running aground. I heard the train coming in the distance and timed the shot to catch the headlights straight on just as it was coming around the bend.
Now I would like your opinion. This is the original image that I shot that day, and it's still one of my favorites. I think it truly portrays the magnificence that is our forty ninth state. However, it's a very wide photograph, and the train is but a tiny speck, which is what I wanted to portray. I know that many of us view the contest entries and vote on our phones, and I didn't think this version of it would work when viewed on a cellphone .I quickly cropped it into a smaller, vertical format to give it impact on both a computer and a phone. What do you think? Did I do the right thing?
Thanks again for your support. I'm taking suggestions for the theme for our next contest.
This is the original image.
For comparison, here is the version that I entered.
