Tariff rebates

This is just nuts.

If the foreign country pays the tariff, as the Administration says, why would we get a rebate?

In reality, the importer pays the tariff and passes it along to us. Why give us a rebate? Why not just do away with the tariff or reduce it and avoid all the bureaucracy in between?

Who’s making these decisions, the Marx Brothers.

1. Remember the checks that Bush II sent out

before the 2004 election? It wasn't much, but it seemed to improve the public's perception of Bush. I guess that when approval for a Republican president needs to be stimulated, there is always a little change in the Whitehouse sofa cushions.

3. Think about

it logically. Tariffs aren't meant to generate revenue and Trump knows that. The tariff system is a vehicle used as an attempt to either protect internal production and jobs, or to punish another country and pressure them to modify a behavior we may take issue with.
When he says other countries "pay" for it, he is technically telling the truth, but we all know that the cost gets passed on to the consumer. In the end, the consumer pays for it. I think his rebate BS is just a bribe to the consumer in an attempt to alleviate the damage of the higher cost of imported goods.

4. They know prices will get higher and economic slowdown likely due to tariffs

and they will need a stimulus to get Repubs re-elected and that's also why he is so insistent on interest rate cuts, but don't want to admit that they're afraid of economic problems over the next year. These kind of direct payments unrelated to tax changes have never been made before except during economic slowdowns.

Weird though that multiple websites are already falsely stating that $1390 stimulus payments have already been approved and going out in next month with same eligibility limits as the covid payments.

...over thinking this...

...I'm going to grab my rebate check and run...why should only millionaires and billionaires profit from the destruction of our country...?

...trump has shown time and again that he will ultimately have his way with our economic, political and judicial systems...

...as trump destroys our country and wants to throw some money at me, who am I to question...?

...no one's going to stop him...so enjoy

also he can create confusion in the records through all of this massive change, so that no one can identify the 1000 ways they are committing their heist
Also they can discriminate against blue states, or Dems, or Latinos, or any other arbitrary category they want
They can give the media some juicy stories to blab on and on about
They can help their chances in the midterms
They have an excuse to bully and blackmail foreign powers, but ALSO US industries too, and governors.

Once again, a trump bad idea is followed by another trump bad idea to "correct" the first bad idea.

A vendor/supplier I know has home improvement operations in Arkansas.
They have three clients who have pending projects each in the $4-6K range.
Clients are saying they'll be ready to rip as soon as they get their DOGE check.

Tariff rebate and DOGE checks will arrive right after gas hits $1.99 nationally.
