I believe that statement was made by attorney Bradley Edwards who represented 5 of the Epstein victims, now down to 3. One overdosed and the other committed suicide.
Maxwell was chic and had the ability to convince little girls that she could make them models or get them to college, she could convince little girls where a man could not.
Maxwell was a monster who recruited the little girls for Epstein, without her there would not be a Jeffrey Epstein, and Democrats need to spread that message when Maxwell comes out with her lying statements.

(29,077 posts)an attorney who represented 5 victims at the trial. He told the stories about what Maxwell did to and how she did it to enslave little girls. Maxwell was involved in many of the sexual assaults.
Ghislaine Maxwell is a monster who enabled Jeffrey Epstein.
I stand by reposting what Bradley Edwards said, it in no way lets Epstein off the hook.

(1,109 posts)But I think the intended insinuation was that the scope of his crimes would've been much smaller and therefore the scale of the 'Epstein Story' would've been much more limited. IOW it's 'the story', more so than 'the man' that's meant by 'there'd be no Epstein'.
And in that context it's probably mostly true. She recruited a LOT of his teen victims, nearly all the ones we've ever heard from, and I'm sure the presence of a woman there like her made them feel 'safer' going to Epstein's houses than they ever would have if it was him trying to lure them there.
They are BOTH monsters and she was a very major facilitator and accomplice in his crimes.

(14,105 posts)"there would be no .." And, that, is frankly just not true. These people have always found a way ...
We don't have to minimize Maxwell's part in any way - in order to continue to insist that Epstein was the engine ....

(1,109 posts)I already stipulated that taken on its face its bullshit, but viewed in the context in which it was said, it's not hard to glean what was actually intended by the speaker

(29,077 posts)14 year old girls are not prostitutes, that's what Alan Dershowitz called them. They were victims of sex trafficking.

(1,109 posts)Let me clear here, from the standpoint of disparagingly referring to the victims as 'prostitutes', then absolutely yes, that's a bullshit thing to do. If you are not old enough to 'consent' (which 14 is not) then any sex (unless you're in their age group) is statutory rape
However, all of the victims were paid in exchange for sexual favors, that's why a number of them returned to the Epstein house, in some cases many times, over months or even years. It's uncomfortable to ponder, but it's factual, and testified to by the victims.
So, again, while calling a 14 yo victim 'a prostitute' is fucked up and wrong, at the same time, it's not inaccurate to say Maxwell identified, then lured and groomed the girls into a life of prostitution. That was her 'job' and that's what she did. They themselves were not 'prostitutes' they were victims, but the pattern of behavior meets the definition of 'prostitution', if that makes sense?

(8,524 posts)And there's this testimony, as reported in the BBC:
But for these women this was no fairytale. It was a nightmare and it was very real. How real became apparent the following day when Jane took the stand.
She testified that Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein approached her when she was 14 years old at a summer arts camp in 1994.
Over the next two years, she said she was abused about every other week with Maxwell sometimes taking part.

And it gets so much better...
Attorney Bradley Edwards says that the book is currently in the possession of the Epstein estate in Florida and it exists for an "absolute fact." He stated that he nows the estate executors and believes that they would relinquish the book if subpoenaed by Congress.
"I do know that they were involved in the assembly of the book, several of them, Edwards said, speaking about "multiple" victims during an appearance on MSNBCs "The Last Word."
