The Trump administration has paused work on a new database that is designed to provide Americans with precise estimates about their risk of experiencing flash floods. The database would, for the first time, take climate change into account when making precipitation frequency estimates, which would help people plan for the future when designing and building infrastructure projects. This is about engineers and businesses and public works, making the best informed decisions possible so that were not in a situation where we build something today, and in 20 years we have to go back and retrofit it, said Dan Walker, co-chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers-NOAA task force on climate resilience in engineering practice. A National Weather Service spokesperson said the work on the database is under review.
Applegrove:
The rich plan to make money on climate change. How can they do that if the public's homes are safe and they know a good buy? How is real estate going to be in constant flux of rebuilding and destruction due to climate change that home builders need to make the big $$$? How are the rich going to transfer more money to themselves if the people have good information?
Keep in mind the basic assumption in every market model is '
given perfect information' demand and supply will behave in certain ways to find equilibrium. Well this is giving perfect information to the rich who can afford to get it through private sources and taking it away from the public.
