...using a self-serving, hypocritical complaint about not being able to afford them.
Eugene @BreakingNews4X
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Tuesday it would cut funding for a national network of centers that have supported thousands of small- and mid-sized farm and food businesses.
This from a republican administration that just voted for billions in tax relief for millionaires while slashing funds for food, housing, medical care; the same WH and republican party which just voted for unaccountable BILLIONS for the largest police agency in the nation which Trump has already used to DEPRESS California's economy by using his newly funded ICE thugs to terrorize communities so thoroughly that workers and residents alike are hiding in their homes, afraid to go to work at the farms or even shop at the stores.
We don't have to wonder anymore at the mentality and motive of this. This is just cruelty and ignorance from a man who measures America' worth by the weight of the gold trimmings and trappings he's draped all around the people's house.
___The cuts are another hit to farmers from President Donald Trump's effort to shrink the size and cost of the federal government. The administration has previously canceled programs for local foods and food banks and climate-friendly farming, among others.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said in a statement that the agency was terminating the Regional Food Business Centers program because they were not financially sustainable.
Four of the 12 centers will close immediately, and the remaining eight have the option to continue managing existing grants through next May, Rollins said.
The USDA under former President Joe Biden spent $400 million to open the centers as part of its effort to increase resilience and competition in the U.S. food supply chain. The centers have provided training or technical assistance to more than 5,500 farms and businesses, according to a 2024 progress report.

USDA Regional Food Business Centers (had) three main responsibilities:
Coordination - The Centers acted as regional hubs that coordinate across geographic areas, with USDA, other federal, state, and tribal governments. Centers work with local partners to develop and implement public-private partnerships, including technical assistance and funding plans, to serve the specific needs of their region.
Technical Assistance - The Centers provided technical assistance to small- and mid-sized food and farm businesses (producers, processors, distributors, and other businesses within the food supply chain). Centers also support market development and supply chain coordination. Technical assistance includes guidance, support, assessment, and/or customized training aimed at building capacity to access new markets, increasing viability, or increasing business acumen.
Capacity Building The Centers invested in business and market development through Business Builder awards of up to $100,000. Business Builder awards support farm and food businesses which are seeking to increase profitability through market diversification or expansion. These awards may support staff time, business planning activities, software implementation, the purchase includes food safety, processing and packaging equipment, supply chain coordination and innovation, product development, or marketing expenses.

___A USDA study found that most U.S. farms (86%) are small family farms (GCFI less than $350,000); these farms operate on 41% of U.S. agricultural land and account for 17% of the total value of production, Large-scale family farms (GCFI of $1,000,000 or more) accounted for 48% of the total value of production and 31% of agricultural land in 2023.
Large-scale family farms accounted for the majority of the value of cash grains and soybeans (52%), cotton (71%), dairy (77%), and specialty crops (59%) production,
Small family farms produced 45% of the value of hay and 46% of the total value of U.S. poultry and egg output. 22% of the value of beef production occurred on small family farms, while 39% occurred on large-scale family farms. Small family farms often have cow-calf operations, while large-scale family farms are more likely to operate feedlots.
Small family farms received 76% of all payments from USDAs Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Midsized and large-scale family farms accounted for 66% of the total value of production and received 71% of countercyclical-type payments, which include Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and 61% of all other payments, which include Dairy Margin Coverage, agricultural disaster, and ad-hoc payments.

Farmer-Focused USDA Agencies Face Deep Cuts in Trumps 2026 Budget Plan
In recently released budget documents, the Trump administration has proposed a nearly $7 billion reduction in USDA funding for 2026. Almost $1.2 billion would come from the departments primary farmer-facing agencies.
FSA, NRCS, and RMA along with many of USDAs other initiatives would face major reductions under the 2026 budget request, as part of an effort to safeguard our country from fiscal ruin, according to Trump's USDA.

This monstrous administration seems to think that it's trumps personal plaything. A country is a different kettle of fish entirely. All citizens and prospective citizens, whether they are fit and able or not should be able to expect that, within the law, their government is there to help them.
They are trivialising the role of responsible government. They forget that the US is not composed entirely of billionaires - or maybe they don't. The plan might be to make all the non-billionaires grateful for every manky bone that is thrown their way.
