US Core CPI Rises Less Than Expected Again on Drop in Car Prices

"Underlying US inflation rose in June by less than expected for a fifth month, as lower car prices helped offset gains in other goods exposed to tariffs.

The consumer price index, excluding the often volatile food and energy categories, increased 0.2% from May, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data out Tuesday. On an annual basis, it advanced 2.9%.

Underlying US Inflation Softer Than Projected
Declines in car prices helped mitigate tariff-related increases elsewhere

Goods prices, excluding food and energy commodities, rose 0.2% after stalling in the prior month. Categories that are more exposed to tariffs, including toys, furniture, appliances and apparel, showed strength, suggesting companies are starting to pass higher import costs on to consumers. Meantime, prices of new and used cars declined.

2. Very interesting how they are framing it

The headline on their website is:

Underlying Inflation Ticks Higher

But then they say it’s lower than expected. I think the real story is it is increasing again and it’s only June.

At some point about a year into Biden I stopped. Constant talk about inflation, doom predictions about how Europw will freeze in the winter, constant assumption that "we're already in recession". Lisa Bramo is a Trump humping twat.

11. No she isn't, and neither are any of the hosts on Bloomberg. They don't express their personal views.

In fact Bloomberg has a commitment to objectivity, which is probably why they are viewed by some as actually leaning to the left, which they are NOT. They are neither leaning to the left or right.

Bloomberg News actually trains its reporters to be impartial, presenting both sides of a story and avoiding personal biases.

Their editorial policies also reinforce this objectivity by prohibiting gifts from sources and requiring disclosure of conflicts of interest.

to them to defeat trump.

You want to know who constantly "sh**" on Biden and the Democrats, the Democratic Socialists of America, Democracy Now, and the MSM, which Bloomberg is not part of.

While Bloomberg interviews people from across the whole political and business spectrum, including both Democrats and trump officials, I have never seen them inject their own personal feelings in an interview, and a guests opinion are not the same thing as an interviewers opinion.

Which news outlet do you consider as objective?

3. I ordered groceries online yesterday for curbside pickup.

My previous order was 3 weeks ago. So in the 3 weeks in between orders, 20 of the 42 items I ordered had price increases. The average increase was 8.3%. That doesn't remotely signal inflation being anywhere close to under control to me.

You have to try pretty hard to paint this CPI report as anything but bad. Inflation was higher than expectations. Core inflation came in right on expectations according to most economists, Bloomberg had cast a wide net to find one that had predicted 3.0% so they could write that headline..

During his presidency things were so out of whack in the car market that people were making money by buying cars and selling them back to dealerships a few months later. How is someone supposed to fight inflation when you have a market that crazy?
