Jewish sites vandalized in Poland after Holocaust denial remarks by lawmaker

Unidentified vandals defaced two Jewish sites in Dolka, Poland, over the weekend, spray-painting anti-Israel slurs and Nazi swastikas on the remains of a local synagogue and a memorial at the Jewish cemetery.
The synagogue, located in southeast Poland, was destroyed by the Nazis during the Holocaust, while the cemetery’s memorial, built in recent years by townspeople, symbolizes pre-Holocaust coexistence between Poles and Jews.

The vandalism likely stems from controversial remarks by Polish European Parliament member Grzegorz Braun at an annual ceremony in Jedwabne alongside Poland’s Chief Rabbi, Michael Schudrich. Braun claimed the Auschwitz gas chambers were fabricated, prompting outrage.

Dolka residents condemned the vandalism, expressing deep shock at the hateful acts and reaffirming their commitment to dialogue with the Jewish community, noting such actions hinder reconciliation efforts.

Meir Bulka, chairman of J-nerations, an organization preserving Jewish heritage in Poland, condemned the incident. “Poland stands at a crossroads and must confront this hatred immediately,” he said. “Last Thursday, we saw history distorted as a Polish parliamentarian blatantly denied the Holocaust, receiving applause from a mob.” Bulka urged Poland’s new president and prime minister to act swiftly against Holocaust denial and attacks on Jewish memory, warning that the country’s fertile ground for antisemitism and xenophobia fuels such violence. He noted that Poland’s Jewish population is now a mere handful, vulnerable to these attacks.

Eisenhower wanted the Holocaust and death camps thoroughly documented because he knew there would be these evil scum who would try to deny it.

Yet Trump has his 6MWE and Camp Auschwitz followers. That's anti-denial in his own camp. (6 Million Wasn't Enough)

was anti-Israel. Again, conflating the two.
There's a trend.
Jews in the diaspora do not set Israeli policy, nor do we have much sway, yet somehow we are responsible for the behavior of all Jewish people. Like my mother said....

Of course they hate Israel too, it's a Jewish state. You can bet they didn't also paint anti-Israel slurs because they truly CARE about Palestinians. They use that added animus to fan their anti-semitism that would exist with or without Israel, or its actions.

These right-wing hateful a**holes are a different breed altogether from those on the left who feel they have legitimate reasons to criticize Israel, for its actions and who do it because they cannot stay silent in the face of injustice and so much suffering. Pleasr don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Those who believe "all Jews are responsible" and assign collective guilt are either ignorant authoritarians or anti-semites. I do not believe you are collectively responsible. But I do believe that you as American Jews have more sway than you think, and I believe that, as individuals, Jewish or not, we all have to speak out now to protect Palestinians from the fate Israel's right-wing and the ascendant settler movement have ordained for them. Because it's just plainly wrong.

Usually, it comes in the form of 'splaining how they are different from neo-Nazis or Trump, for that matter. Although, it is disturbing to see some even defend anti-Semitism from the right. I would say that is a head-scratcher, but it really isn't.

Don't push back = anti-semite by default

Push back = "Conflation!, guilty, anti-semite"!

That definition was set up as a lose-lose for human rights defenders of Palestinians on the left.

The corollary being that Israel can do whatever it wants and Palestinians are either abandoned or their defenders are smeared.

It's a good game for one side, sucks for the other. Best not played at all, as I found out.

I hope you alerted on those who defend anti-semitism from the right. I have not personally seen such posts.

Now, if they are anti-Semites, then yes, one conspiracy is never enough and usually many are tied together. Name a topic and I almost guarantee I can find a "theory" of the "Jews did it". Sadly, it doesn't even matter how benign a topic, for some, there is a Jew behind every bush. They are as prevalent as those who can't ever see anti-Semitism. No wonder some theories get such traction; it is "perfect" combination.
