When you have absolutely no taste your office looks like this.

The golden eagle tables.

The White House has access to some of the finest art, sculptures, fabrics, furniture,
designers, and craftspeople in the world and it looks like they have gone to a yard sale
sale for some of their stuff. Those gold plated metal scroll things (filigrees) are really
bad. $20.00 for all of them @ a garage sale.

gold-brick(n.)

"gold in the form of a brick," 1853, from gold (adj.) + brick (n.). Meaning "shirker" is from 1914, World War I armed forces slang, from earlier verb meaning "to swindle, cheat" (1902) from the old con game of selling spurious "gold" bricks (attested by 1881).

Gold EVERYTHING, from gewgaws and picture frames to the upholstery of the royal chairs he can sit his royal ass down upon. I’m surprised he doesn’t make the press people dress in gold so that’s all he ever has to see.

Now I understand why he’s moved heaven and earth for years to make sure that whatever hair he still has on his head can look the part, too.

Trump covets. That's his raison d'etre. Whether it's women, golf courses, buildings, money or gold, he wants what others have. This is his mind-scrambling version of Putin's palace.
Maybe we should be thankful Melanoma didn't decorate, because she would have had it bulldozed and covered in cement. That's her vision of wealthy-chic.

Makes sense if you're the White House design team. Slap some 3M tape on the back and it won't damage the actual walls and fireplace and can be easily removed for the next occupant

37. Long story: A New Orleans sporting house
Thu Jul 10, 2025, 12:20 PM
Jul 10

My family is from rural SW Mississippi-SE Louisiana. As with any family -- especially Southern families -- we have or share and them some of colorful characters.

In 1870, one of my very distant cousins married another of my very distant cousins, they lived in New Orleans and had six children.

She died in 1880. He moved in with his girlfriend, who was the proprietress of a well-known New Orleans sporting house. In 1890, he shot and killed one of her other close gentlemen friends and fled to SW Mississippi, where his mother was living with one of her daughters and son-in-law.

In 1883, the mother -- aghast at her grandchildren living in a New Orleans whorehouse --went to New Orleans and removed the six children to her home in rural SW Mississippi.

As time moved on and the New Orleans sporting houses closed, a few of them and their furnishings were saved and today are part of a New Orleans museum.

Trump's decoration of the Oval Office could easily be mistaken for a New Orleans whorehouse circa 1880. Seems fitting somehow.
